Streetstyle by Ted Polhemus

Streetstyle by Ted Polhemus A big hello from across the pond in Montreal, yep, I've finally completed my emigration to Canada. It's extremely exciting, but not as exciting as the forthcoming Streetstyle book launch, exhibition and private view bought to you by those incomparable folk at PYMCA!! The launch has already garnered huge compliments from two very different areas: Hollywood star Chloe Sevigny describes the book as her 'sartorial bible', while the good folk over at City Hall, London, will be hosting a Streetstyle exhibition on their hallowed walls. From Hollywood to City Hall, not a bad start! PYMCA are also hosting a public exhibition at The Book Club, Shoreditch, from 30th September to 31st October. The private view is from 6pm on 30th September and will feature images from the book as well as showcasing a series of talks and discussions with Ted and guests about the past, present and future of Street Style and subcultural fashion. If you'd like to interview Ted, and / or film the talks and discussions to use as online content, just let me know and we'll get it arranged. And apologies if you've received this already as my lovely colleague Jolene has been busy sending out the news, but we will ensure our cross-Atlantic communication will improve over time. Here's the rest of the information. PYMCA are delighted to announce the launch of the new edition of the legendary book, Streetstyle by Ted Polhemus. “Streetstyle is my sartorial bible” – Chloe Sevigny in The New York Times. [1]Pre-order the book from the PYMCA shop Price: £19.95 *Signed copies of Streetstyle will be available exclusively from the PYMCA website from the 23rd September, one week before general release* [2] Without the Hipsters, Teddy Boys, Beats, Rockabillies, Rude Boys, Mods, Surfers, Hippies, Punks, B-Boys, Ravers, Harajuku Girls - and all the other streetstyle originals – most of us would be left without anything to wear. But the sharp suits, leather jackets, jeans, kaftans, flares, DMs, slick locks and so forth are only the visible, tangible part of this legacy. Oozing through the clothes, hairstyles, make-up and accessories is an attitude. An attitude which perhaps more than any other set the tone of life in the second half of the twentieth century and which shows no sign of dissipating in the twenty-first. This fully updated edition will feature nearly 100 extra pages with a four page bound insert, 5 new chapters, including over 250 compelling images, all packed into 224 devilishly stylish pages. The Book Club, 100 Leonard Street, London, EC2A 4RH
