READY, STEADY, REISSUE!

GENERATION X’s classic debut album is to get the expanded reissue treatment!

The self-titled album, released in March ’78, was produced by soon-to-be award-winning producer Martin Rushent, at that time best known for his work with The Stranglers, and during roughly the same period as he was working on Buzzcocks’ Another Music In A Different Kitchen. The band had previously worked with Sweet and Mud producer Phil Wainman, who they felt was too poppy.

The album was recorded at TW Studios, Fulham in a week, with most of the tracks done in one take with minimal overdubs. It yielded the minor hit ‘Ready Steady Go’ and, unusually for a punk album, a number of tracks past the 4-minute mark, including the epic ‘Kiss Me Deadly’ (which would give its name to the band’s third album) and cacophonic six-minute closer ‘Youth Youth Youth’. The album reached No.29 in the charts on its release.

The new 2-CD or 3-LP reissue features the fully remastered original 11-track album, plus a further 19 tracks, 11 of which are previously unreleased. The additional tracks include all contemporaneous single As and Bs, including the non-album singles ‘Your Generation’ and ‘Wild Youth’, tracks from the Phil Wainman sessions, album outtakes and several mixes by the album’s engineer Alan Winstanley. The CD includes a 12-page booklet with notes by journalist Adrian Thrills, plus previously unseen photos.

The expanded Generation X is set for release on Friday 26 April.
