Tuesday 3rd December 2013
MUSICIANS AND CAMPAIGNERS TAKE TO LONDON STAGE TO REMEMBER JOE STRUMMER And support the firefighters
On Saturday the 21st December, at the Coronet in Elephant and Castle, musicians and campaigners will come together to mark the 11th anniversary of the death of Clash-frontman Joe Strummer and to reinforce the message of support to the firefighters and all those battling for social and economic justice in a world where “The Clampdown” is writ large.
The event will feature former Sex Pistol Glen Matlock, the extraordinary force that is Louise Distras, old-school R&B merchants The Bermondsey Joyriders and Mick Jones-produced Taurus Tracker. Other performers will be confirmed and special collaborations are expected on the night.
Dreadzone, and the Rude Boy himself Ray Gange, will take care of the decks and there will be video, graphics and speakers alongside stalls from trade unions and community groups as the lasting legacy of Joe Strummer and his music is celebrated just south of the Thames.
Tickets are just £7.50 in advance and are £10 on the night and can be obtained from the Coronet directly at www.coronettheatre.co.uk .
AS JOE STRUMMER SAID:
"And so now I’d like to say – people can change anything they want to.
And that means everything in the world. People are running about following their
little tracks – I am one of them. But we’ve all got to stop just following our own little
mouse trail. People can do anything – this is something that I’m beginning to
learn. People are out there doing bad things to each other. That’s because
they’ve been dehumanised. It’s time to take the humanity back into the center
of the ring and follow that for a time. Greed, it ain’t going anywhere. They
should have that in a big billboard across Times Square. Without people you’re nothing. That’s my spiel.”
