IGGY, ZIGGY N’ LOU POSTER EXHIBITION

 IGGY, ZIGGY AND LOU

MEMORABILIA EXHIBITION CELEBRATES THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF DAVID BOWIE`S `ZIGGY STARDUST` IGGY & THE STOOGES AND LOU REED IN LONDON

Original 1972/73 posters, flyers and memorabilia of rock icons David Bowie, Iggy & the Stooges and Lou Reed feature in a new exhibition in Clerkenwell, London, from the end of June.

It celebrates a remarkable period in the capital’s musical heritage: the birth of Bowie alter ego Ziggy Stardust; the now legendary, one-and-only UK concert by Iggy and The Stooges at the King’s Cross Cinema (now the Scala), while they were recording the album Raw Power in London; and Lou Reed’s performance at the same venue, when he first performed tracks from the classic, Bowie-produced album Transformer, which was released at the end of 1972.

The month-long Iggy, Ziggy and Lou exhibition is at Bamalama Posters, 55 Leather Lane, EC1N 7TJ, and will also feature a selection of original posters and images from the same 1972/73 period including Roxy Music,Marc Bolan,MC5 and the NY Dolls.

John Brett, of Bamalama Posters, said: “In rock terms, it’s fair to say that the Seventies started in 1972, thanks in no small measure to Bowie’s astonishing Ziggy Stardust creation – while the music made in London that year by both Iggy Pop and Lou Reed influenced entire generations of rock bands and rock genres, and continues to this day”.

John is also keen to speak to anyone who may want to contribute items to the exhibition.

Iggy, Ziggy and Lou runs from Thursday 28 June to Thursday 26 July 2012, 12noon-7pm daily (closed Sundays), at Bamalama Posters, 55 Leather Lane, Clerkenwell, London EC1N 7TJ.  Nearest Tubes: Chancery Lane and Farringdon.
