GROOVIES’ EARLY YEARS COMPILED!

San Francisco legends the FLAMIN’ GROOVIES have their early recordings compiled in a new box set next month.

Originally formed back in the mid-60s, the Groovies were at odds with the blossoming psych scene thanks to their love of early rock’n’roll. Nevertheless, having released their own 10-inch EP Sneakers, they were snapped up by Epic for their full length debut, Supersnazz. When that failed to sell, however, they switched to Kama Sutra for Flamingo, then Teenage Head.

With a change in line-up, seeing frontman Roy Loney replaced by Chris Wilson, guitarist Cyril Jordan would take the band in a more Beatley/powerpop direction during the 70s, signing to Sire and riding the New Wave across Europe. Reconvening in 2013, the band released their latest album Fantastic Plastic in 2017.

Gonna Rock Tonite! The Complete Recordings 1969-71 brings together those first three albums across three CDs, all expanded with bonus tracks including numerous rock’n’roll covers. The set is completed with a 20-page booklet including a new 7,500-word essay.

Set for release on 22 February through Cherry Red, Gonna Rock Tonite! Is available to pre-order here.
