CULT FIGURES RETURN!

Birmingham post-punks CULT FIGURES are back with a new single and a special one-off London show this month.

The download single, ‘Something About You’ c/w ‘Boredom Club’, features songs recorded during sessions for the band’s widely acclaimed album Deritend, which came out last year, and is being released in tribute to the band’s founder and frontman Gary Jones, who sadly passed away in March.

‘Something About You’ is described as “a timely punky rant against figures of authority who have bitten off more than they can chew but still choose to choke on their ill-advised gorging,” while ‘Boredom Club’ dates back to the early days of the band, who formed out of the same Solihull Art School scene as, and under the auspices of, DIY punk pioneers Swell Maps. Both tracks were produced and mixed by legendary producer John Rivers (Nikki Sudden, Love And Rockets, Pop Will Eat Itself).

Say the band, “The songs are now being released as the band’s salute to our original vocalist, founder, and the man responsible for giving the band its name – Gary Jones, who passed away on 4 March after battling with cancer. Everything Cult Figures will be working on from here will be in dedication to his memory.”

Released through Gare Du Nord Records, the single is available now through Bandcamp.

Cult Figures return to the stage at The Dublin Castle, Camden on Friday 29 April with their new line-up featuring new singer Fraser Gillespie and guitarist Steve May. Support comes from Kape Kanaveral, Wicked Splinters and Vibrogette. Tickets are on sale here.

Proceeds from the single and from the band’s merch on the night (bring cash!) will be donated to St Joseph’s Hospice, Hackney, who cared for Gary during his final days.
