The Living End were ‘surprise’ support band for The Stray Cats at their Melbourne gig last week. As an extra special touch, life-long Cats fan Chris Cheney delighted the audience by getting up to play along side Brian Setzer during the encore.

In what has to rank as one of the most unlikely developments in rock, the awe-inspiring primal force of the Jesus Lizard will return, briefly, in 2009.  The original line-up of David Yow, Duane Denison, David Wm.  Sims and Mac McNeilly will reform for a very limited series of live dates in 2009, starting with the All Tomorrow’s Parties event

dubbed The  Fans Strike Back in Minehead, UK on May 9 and 10. Added to this, the band have confirmed a one-off show at London’s Forum on 11th May.

These shows will be the Jesus  Lizard’s first since disbanding in 1999 and the first in twelve years to  feature the original storied quartet. As anyone who has experienced the  Jesus Lizard live can attest, they

are one of the most intense and visceral musical assemblies to ever stalk a stage.  This fleeting reunion offers an incredible opportunity to either be blown away all over again or to immerse yourself in the sweaty power and driving mayhem for the very first time.

In celebration of this event, Touch and Go Records will reissue four full-length releases from the Jesus Lizard this autumn though the exact release date is yet to be confirmed. Remastered recordings of /Head/, /Goat/, /Liar/, and /Down/ will be available on both LP and CD, all with expanded packaging and liner notes.  Bob Weston is heading up the remastering process with Steve Albini, the  original session engineer, sitting in.

Stay tuned for more details as they become available.

Hardcore metal leaders HATEBREED are set to release their long-awaited new covers album, “For The Lions” via Century Media Records in Europe on May 11th, 2009 and E1 Music (formerly Koch Records) in the US on May 5th, 2009.
The songs on “For The Lions” were carefully selected by HATEBREED to represent a panoramic view of some of their favorite artists and greatest musical inspirations. Having completed the album in 2008, the band felt their work wasn’t done yet and just returned to the studio with original guitar player Wayne Lozinak to record additional tracks for the album. The 4 new covers are among the most bludgeoning the band has ever recorded and include “Ghosts Of War” (Slayer), “Supertouch/Shitfit (Bad Brains), “Thirsty” (Black Flag) and “Suicidal Maniac” (Suicidal Tendencies).
“For The Lions” was produced, engineered and mixed by long-time band associate Chris "Zeuss" Harris and if you scroll through the player at the band’s MySpace you can now check out a snippet of “Suicidal Maniac”, so head over to:!
See below for the complete track-listing of “For The Lions”:
Slayer – Ghosts of War
Cro-Mags – It’s The Limit
Suicidal Tendencies – Suicidal Maniac
Sepultura – Refuse/Resist
Metallica – Escape
Bad Brains – Supertouch/Shitfit
Misfits – Hatebreeders
D.R.I. – Evil Minds
Madball – Set It Off
Sick Of It All – Shut Me Out
Black Flag- Thirsty
Negative Approach – Sick Of Talk
Crowbar – All I Had I Gave
Merauder – Life Is Pain
Agnostic Front – Your Mistake
Judge – Hear Me
Obituary – I’m In Pain
Subzero – Boxed In
In additional HATEBREED news, the band announces the departure of guitar player Sean M. Martin welcoming back to the fold original guitarist Wayne Lozinak
Front man Jamey Jasta says, “I speak on behalf of all of us and we support Sean’s decision to leave and want him to be happy and successful at everything he does. There are no bad feelings at all and you’ll probably see him hanging on stage at some of our local shows. We’re family and he will be missed but HATEBREED will forge on.”
Sean M. Martin comments "After 10 years, I’ve decided to leave HATEBREED. This in no way reflects my personal relationship with Jamey, Chris, Matt and Frank, they’re four of my closest friends and I’ll always love them with all my heart. I want to thank all of the fans as well as the guys in the band and crew, past and present, for giving me some of the best times of my life."
The band’s #1 Billboard charting DVD “Live Dominance” (originally released in September 2008 in the US & Canada via Koch Records) will finally be released via Century Media Records in Europe on March 23, 2009, including the entire main show’s audio as bonus live CD! ORIGINAL LINE UP KILLING JOKE + 5 more confirmed for
ATP: The Fans Strike Back festival, May 2009!

KILLING JOKE are one of the most exciting acts to be picked so far for this May’s forthcoming ATP: Fans Strike Back event. For this festival half of the line-up is chosen by All Tomorrow’s Parties and the other half is voted for by every fan that buys a ticket. Today sees the addition of six new artists to this event, which takes place from the 8th-10th May 2009 at Butlins Holiday Resort, Minehead, England.  Tickets are on sale now and are selling fast!

First are three new additions to the FANS voted side of the bill:
Legendary post-punk giants KILLING JOKE return with their original line-up. They are one of the most influential British rock bands of all time; not only being a major influence on the emergence of the Industrial genre, and having a much wider influence on many forms of rock music over their 13 album lifespan; but also achieving some popular success and major cult success worldwide. They have been covered by bands including Metallica and Foo Fighters (Dave Grohl later drummed on the band’s 2003 self-titled record). LCD’s Soundsystem’s Losing My Edge is arguably based on Killing Joke’s Change, and Nirvana famously gave up the royalties to Come As You Are after admitting they’d stolen it’s riff from Killing Joke’s Eighties. 2009 will be their 30th anniversary.

Other Fan voted bands this week are THE MAE SHI (who recently turned heads with a tribute song to Christian Bale) and SCHOOL OF SEVEN BELLS. Here’s what the fans have picked so far with many more to come:

In addition ATP have added LIAM FINN (son of Crowded House’s Neil), post-rock newcomers THIS WILL DESTROY YOU and alt-folk act HUSH ARBORS to their side of the bill. Here’s what ATP have chosen so far:
THE JESUS LIZARD / DEVO / SLEEP performing Holy Mountain, selections from Dopesmoker + more / SPIRITUALIZED  / YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS perform Colossal Youth /

Continuing their tradition of mixing artistic fields; ATP have also invited Pete Fowler (most famous for his work with Super Furry Animals) to present an exhibition of his work at this event.

Gary Numan New Live Dates –
April 23 Wolverhampton Wulfren Hall (adv £18.50)
          April 24 Liverpool 02 Academy (£17.50)
          April 25 Sheffield Academy (£17.50)
          June 10 Bristol Academy (£17.50)
          June 11 Oxford Academy (£17.50)
July 25 London Shepherds Bush (£25).
Gary Numan has just announced a series of dates in  2009, following his first Australian tour in nearly 30 years in March. Numan  is also working on two new albums ˆ Dead Son Rising, an album of new  tracks built out of demos he re-discovered last year, and Splinter, the  full follow-up to 2006’s Jagged, which will be released in early 2010.  He’s also recently released a DVD of the 2008 Replicas Tour, which  reached Number 3 in the UK chart.

Numan is one of the most covered and remixed artists of  the last 30 years. A roll call of those artists who have performed or sampled  his songs is virtually a who’s who of modern music. They include Damon Albarn  (Blur), Afrika Bambaataa, Jarvis Cocker, The Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails,  Marilyn Manson, Sugababes, Basement Jaxx, Smashing Pumpkins, St Etienne, GZA  from the Wu-Tang Clan, Armand Van Helden and DJ Hell.

The likes of Kurt Cobain, Devo and Tricky have also  namechecked him as an influence, a trend that is continuing with a new  generation of artists such as Little Boots, Late Of The Pier and Santogold. As  the NME now argue, ‘Numan’s influence on electronic music is  unparalleled.’ <> <>

Mutiny Festival

Bridlington Spa, East Yorkshire
Date: 16th May 2009
£30 Adults
£20 under 16’s
Box Office: 01262 678258

Whilst many mainstream festivals are closing down in the credit crunch the punk festival scene is booming. Further proof of a strong grass roots sub-culture is provided by the latest addition to the scene calendar.

Mutiny, named after UK punk rock heroes Goldblade’s recent top album, is based in Bridlington, East Yorkshire and looks set to be a big success. Promoted by two newcomers to the scene (Ant Hall and David Fisher) and fired by the DIY spirit of punk rock, it’s very much a fan’s event and looks set to be a big hit with hundreds of tickets being sought even before advertising began. Bands and fans are flying in from all over the world for this celebration of the roots radical.

The one-day event will be held at the twenty million pound, newly re-furbished, Bridlington Spa in East Yorkshire. This is a part of the country that has traditionally been starved of pop culture but with excellent communications and plenty of accommodation; it is the perfect location for an event of this scale.

An all day event (2pm till midnight) with a market place of stalls and a very strong and varied bill that encompasses old school punk, Ska and new generation UK bands…

Stiff Little Fingers

Neville Staple (Formerly of The Specials)

Anti-Nowhere League

Sonic Boom Six

Strawberry Blondes

Random Hand

Middle Finger Salute

Comply or Die

Play Daisy

Tickets are £30, which will be for wristbands and re-entry. Further proof of the generational reach of new millennium punk rock is that under 16s are welcome (under adult supervision).

The festival cherishes the memory of Sophie Lancaster the ‘Goth’ girl who was beaten to death by ‘youths’ in a park in Bacup as she tried to stop the 5 youths who were attacking her partner, Rob. The event fully supports The Sophie Lancaster Foundation and S.O.P.H.I.E. campaign

Because every time a kick and punch was aimed at Sophie and Rob it was aimed at the whole punk/Goth/alternative community and Sophie was part of our community.

Sophie’s mother, Sylvia will be at the festival to speak to everyone like she had been doing at recent GoldBlade gigs

The festival is a celebration of the community of punk rock, a scene that goes far deeper than the music. It celebrates its brilliant timeless music and the ability to unite people from all over the world with exciting bands that genuinely touch people with very little hype.

If you want any more information please check out the festival website <>  (myspace) <>  or email David Fisher via <>  or <>

‘Let The Tribe Increase’
14 track CD only: 49 minutes:  Label: Overground Records
Cat. No. OVER 122VP CD
Release Date: 6th April 2009

In many ways The Mob were the archetypal anarcho punk band. Formed in
Yeovil, Somerset in 1979 the band soon spent their time permanently on the
road in a convoy of trucks before squatting in Brougham Road, Hackney – a
street of houses that accommodated many punk and counter-culture types.
Until their demise in 1983 they remained an integral part and a huge
influence on the anarcho, traveller and free festival scenes.

Their first release was the 1980 Crying Again single on their own All The
Madmen label, followed later that year by the Ching cassette. 1981 saw
another single the hugely popular and haunting Witch Hunt soon followed by
their now legendary Crass single No Doves Fly Here, both taking anarcho punk
into new musically unchartered waters.

1983 saw the release of their now legendary album Let The Tribe Increase, an
album that saw them moving away from the constraints of the punk sound as
they continued to push the musical boundaries. This trend continued in their
epic single The Mirror Breaks.

The Mob’s invlovement with the counterculture saw them playing gigs with
archetypal hippies Here & Now and Androids of Mu as well as being actively
involved in the Persons Unknown and Centro Iberico anarchist centres and the
Black Sheep Housing Co-operative.

Eventually The Mob dissolved with Joseph Porter joining Zounds before
founding Blyth Power.

Let The Tribe Increase includes the full album, both tracks from the Mirror
Breaks 7" and a previously unheard demo version of Stay, all professionally
remastered. Packaged in a 12-page booklet it contains a band history and the
events that surrounded the recording of the album by Kill Your Pet Puppy
fanzine editor Alistair Livingston.

Track Listing:
Another Day, Another Death/ Cry Of A Morning/ Dance On (You Fool)/ Prison/
Slayed/ Our Life Our World/ Gates Of Hell/ I Wish/ Never Understood/ Roger/
Witch Hunt/ Stay (demo)/ The Mirror Breaks/ Stay
