The New York Doll and Heartbreaker Johnny Thunders died 18 years ago on Thursday in a New Orleans hotel room. Altho passed off by the authorities at the time as drug-related, the cause of death has never been satisfactorily established. A pioneer of punk rock guitar, Thunders oozed both style and attitude, and was a life-changing performer if you could catch him on a good night. Rest easy, Johnny.

FremantleMedia Enterprises are set to release SIOUXSIE FINALE: THE LAST MANTARAY AND MORE SHOW on DVD on 18 May 2009.
SIOUXSIE “FINALE” was the last show of the Mantaray and More Tour which took place on 29 September 2008 at London’s legendary KOKO club. (Siouxsie played the venue when it was the Music Machine several times between 1977 and 1980). The DVD features the entire concert performance, clocking in at just under two hours, from one of the UK’s most pioneering and iconic musicians : Siouxsie Sioux.
Resplendent with some wonderful costumes and costume changes the show features a great mix of Siouxsie’s new solo songs plus a selection of classics from her mind blowing 30 year career, a truly electrifying and striking performance, this DVD is a true must-see for any Siouxsie fan! The DVD also features an exclusive 30min interview between Siouxsie and artistic director Harvey Bertram-Brown.
The concert kicks off with ’They Follow You’ from her critically acclaimed debut solo album ‘Mantaray’, with Siouxsie glimmering on stage in a silver shroud, before moving into ‘About To Happen’, a guitar riff-tastic stomper also off ‘Mantaray’ The set then twists and turns through Siouxsie’s classics new and old such as ‘Hong Kong Garden’, ‘Here Comes That Day’, ‘Christine’, ‘Happy House”, ‘Into A Swan’, Spellbound’ and ‘Dear Prudence’, in there are also new covers only done on the tour of the The Doors’ ‘Hello I Love You’ and Nancy Sinatra’s ‘These Boots Are Made For Walking’. The concert climaxes with exhilarating performance of ‘Swansway/Reprise’, complete with a dramatic with a black-feathered headdress. Gold and silver catsuits, parasols and tutus are just a few of the moments that enhance this special performance and truly reflect the style and vision that has led to Siouxsie being one of Britain’s foremost performers with a three-decade spanning career.
One of the most influential British females of the rock era, Siouxsie Sioux’s career started with a live performance at the first ever Punk Festival at London’s 100 Club in 1976, she then appeared on the infamous Bill Grundy TV show with the Sex Pistols. Her first single in 1978 with the Banshees, ‘Hong Kong Garden’ immediately went into the UK Top 10. In total Siouxsie has released an astounding 16 studio albums and 41 singles in the UK alone (including 21 top 40 singles), and enjoyed chart success all over the world with the Banshees and as The Creatures before deciding in 2006 to record her first solo album.
Since the Banshee’s split in 1996 Siouxsie has also collaborated with Angelo Badalamenti on the film ‘Edge of Love’, Suede, Morrissey, John Cale, and recently with Basement Jaxx for the track ‘Cish Cash’ featured on the DVD. Her first solo album, ‘Mantaray’, was released in September 2007. Many outstanding artists such as Jeff Buckley, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Massive Attack and Tricky have covered or sampled her work.

Rat Scabies joins in on Damned cover
The drummer made a guest appearance at the HMV London Forum on the last night of the band’s UK tour – playing on a cover of his band’s 1976 debut single ‘New Rose’, widely considered to be the UK’s first punk release.
Introducing Scabies, frontman Jesse ‘The Devil’ Hughes said: "One thing I love about playing in London is you can play with your friends too. Everybody, Rat Scabies."
The track was one of a series of covers featured in the set, along with Stealers Wheel‘s ‘Stuck In The Middle With You’, which famously featured in Quentin Tarantino‘s 1972 film ‘Reservoir Dogs’, as well as THE ROLLING STONES1971 classic ‘Brown Sugar’,
EL DUCE died April 19th 1997 , hit by a train while drunk.
El Duce was best known as the drummer and lead singer of the rock group The Mentors. He rose to national prominence in 1985 as a result of the U.S. Senate ( P.M.R.C. ) hearings regarding "obscene lyrics" in rock music, which named publicly the Mentors as the worst exponent of such lyrics in music. In addition to his musical career El Duce also was employed frequently as a bit player or extra in many motion picture, music video, and television productions. His comic visage and friendly manner made him a show business natural. In January 1997 El Duce had appeared on the Jerry Springer Show in a show devoted to Shock Rock, and in the National Enquirer and other tabloids domestically and internationally regarding his claim that he was approached by Courtney Love to kill Kurt Cobain. The last musical performance by El Duce was given on Friday, April 18th, at Al’s Bar in Downtown Los Angeles.

LTD EDITION 7” SINGLE IN SUPPORT OF “RECORD STORE DAY” 18th APRIL
Tom Waits releases an exclusive ltd edition 7” single through Anti- Records on 18th April in support of ‘Record Store Day’. Waits, who is currently working on material for a new album, drew rave reviews during his European tour last year. The Guardian had this to say of his Edinburgh show; “Waits is an utterly magnetic performer…it seems less like you’ve bought a ticket to a concert than to a different world.” The Times concurred; “Waits wove a spell as intricate and engaging as that of any performer I can remember seeing on a musical stage,” whilst the Daily Telegraph declared; “For a couple of hours every night on the Glitter and Doom tour, with Waits as lightning conductor, whipping up the band, stirring up his demons and roaring up a storm, he puts on what is, quite simply, the greatest show on earth.”

Punk icon JOHN LYDON used to sell drugs at HAWKWIND concerts.
Former band member Lemmy, who now fronts hard rockers Motorhead, didn’t have a clue who the Sex Pistols star was when he confronted him at a punk gig in 1977.
Lemmy tells Spin magazine, "I was standing at the bar, and this bush behind me said, ‘I used to sell acid at all-night shows…’ and I turned round and it was Johnny Rotten.
"I remembered him – he used to have long hair, with pockets full of drugs."

PENNYWISE FAMILY SUFFERS LOSS KRISTIAN DRAGGE, BROTHER OF FLETCHER DRAGGE, PASSED AWAY LAST WEEKEND April 10, 2009— Sadly, the Pennywise family has suffered another loss. On Sunday, April 5, 2009, Kristian Dragge, little brother of Pennywise lead guitarist Fletcher Dragge, tragically passed away at the young age of 39. He left behind his fiancée, Cindy Linn Groeneweg, and their 1-month old baby girl, Avery Nycole Dragge, as well as his mother Karen Dragge. The following is from older brother Fletcher Dragge: My brother Kristian has been a member of the South Bay punk rock scene since 1980 and was at one time the guitar player in the infamous Smut Peddlers. He was a legend in the punk rock community and was well know for his hell-raising antics, along with his fierce loyalty to friends and family. He will be greatly missed by everyone. He has been a huge part of the Pennywise family since Day One. I remember him helping me hang the carpet to soundproof the garage that we formed Pennywise in. I also remember him lugging our equipment from gig to gig, starting mosh pits, as well as the fight he got into the very first time Pennywise ever played live. It was a backyard party in Redondo Beach. It was about four songs into the set when he was jumped by three guys. We all stopped playing, dropped our guitars and jumped in to help him, just like he would have done for any of us. That’s what Pennywise has always been about, taking care of family. That’s why we are setting up a trust fund for his month old baby girl Avery Nycole, in order to assure that she has everything she’ll ever need growing up. Any donations at this time would be greatly appreciated. There is no amount too small, anything will help. Thanks to everyone for the outpouring of love and support in this time of need, it has been overwhelming. KRISTIAN YOU WILL BE FOREVER MISSED BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN R.I.P. Love your brother Fletcher.....Jim, Byron, and Randy. The charity on behalf of Avery Nycole Dragge will be set up shortly in her name. More details to come.

In 1969, the poet-provocateur, MC5 manager and White Panther John Sinclair found himself the victim of that decade’s draconian American drug laws, and facing a twenty-year jail sentence for the possession of two joints. The counterculture Sinclair helped create came to his rescue, however, when John Lennon, Stevie Wonder, Phil Ochs and others performed at a successful benefit gig to petition for his release. Since that epochal moment, Sinclair (whom Ben Edmonds calls the “hardest working poet in showbiz”) has travelled the globe with his beat verses and inimitable growl, performing with some of the world’s finest musicians.
CHARLES SHAAR MURRAY
Arguably the UK’s foremost rock journalist, Murray has written for Q, Mojo, New Statesman, The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, The Sunday Times and more, aswell as his many published works; in 1989 Hendrix biography (Crosstown Traffic: Jimi Hendrix and Post-War Pop) deservedly claimed the prestigious Ralph Gleason Music Book Award.
