CURSE OF LONO VIDEO PREMIERE!

London Americana act CURSE OF LONO have a new single out today and they’re premiering it exclusively with Vive Le Rock!

‘Tell Me About Your Love’ is the second single to be lifted from the band’s forthcoming second album As I Fell which is set for release through Submarine Cat on 17 August. The song was written after frontman Felix Bechtolsheimer visited his Grandfather in hospital shortly before he passed away last year.

“I witnessed a conversation between my Grandfather and my Grandmother, who had been married for sixty-nine years and hadn’t spent more than a handful of nights apart in all that time,” says Felix. “My Grandfather had lived through the Holocaust where he lost a lot of family and he had lost his son a few years ago, but he insisted that his life had been amazing. He said that he would love to hang around a few more years but that he was ready whenever his time came. Then he took her hand and said, tell me the stories of our life. And I watched them hold hands and look out over the lake together as they recalled their adventures. It was one of the most emotional things I have ever witnessed but it was also incredibly inspiring.”

The album, which was produced by Oli Bayston at Rancho V, a remote desert studio in Joshua Tree, California and Flesh & Bone Studios in Hackney, is accompanied by a documentary, Somewhere In Their Heads, by Gregg Houston,  which has been nominated for Best Short Documentary at the Los Angeles Film Awards, Best Cinematography at the Independent Shorts Film Festival, Best International Short Film at the Summerfolk Short Film Showcase in Canada, and Best Director and Best Short Documentary at the World Music & Independent Film Festival Awards.

JON SPENCER ANNOUNCES SOLO ALBUM!

NYC punk-blues legend JON SPENCER returns returns in the Autumn with his debut solo album and a bunch of live dates.

Spencer Sings The Hits is to be released through In The Red Records on 2 November and features the single ‘Do The Trash Can’, shown here.

To make the record, Spencer headed out to the Key Club Recording Comapany in sleepy Benton Harbor, Michigan where the BLUES EXPLOSION made 2012’s Meat and Bone to lay down tracks with Bill Skibbe, who also produced the most recent BOSS HOG album Brood X, along with keyboard player Sam Coombes and drummer M Sord.

Says Spencer, “Sam is someone with whom I have crossed paths many times over the years. I have always been a fan of his wild keyboard style and twisted tunesmith-ery. (In fact we kicked around the idea of a collaboration way back in the early aughts.) I got to know Sord from previous visits to and projects done at the Key Club, he was the handyman and assistant engineer that turned out to be a great drummer.”

Laying down the basic track during late 2017, the sessions were brought to an abrupt halt when Spencer was forced to return to New York on the sudden death of his father-in-law.

“I had to rush back East to be with family,” he explains. “But we accomplished enough – got basics down for all songs. I went back to Michigan (solo) in January to overdub and mix. In general, throughout the project, I tried not to overthink anything and instead just kept pushing forward, trusting in my instincts. I figured that I had already spent months and years thinking about this record and these songs.”

Set for release on 2 November, Spencer Sings The Hits is available to pre-order here.

Spencer will be playing UK dates at the end of October as special guest to THE MELVINS.

23 Oct Birmingham 02 Academy 2
24 Oct Norwich Waterfront
25 Oct Cardiff Y Plas
26 Oct Leeds Stylus
28 Oct Manchester Academy 2
29 Oct Brighton Concorde 2
30 Oct London Koko

ANTI-FLAG ANNOUNCE DATES!

Pittsburgh punks ANTI-FLAG have announced a series of UK and Irish dates for the Autumn.

The band, who formed back in 1993, released their most recent album American Fall a year ago. They’ve just released a video for the track ‘Trouble Finds Me’ from the album.

Their UK dates kick off in Birmingham on 30 October and take in a date at London’s Heaven club. Full dates are…

30 Oct – Birmingham, UK – Asylum
31 Oct – Bristol, UK – SWX
1 Nov – London, UK – Heaven
2 Nov – Manchester, UK – Academy 2
3 Nov – Glasgow, UK – Garage
5 Nov – Belfast, UK – Foundry
6 Nov – Dublin, IE – Whelan’s

Support comes from CANCER BATS and WORRIERS.

The band have also announced two happenings of their occasional one day Antifest on mainland Europe.

The first takes place at Paronaat, Haarlem in the Netherlands on 26 October and features Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Silverstein, Cancer Bats, Prestige, Black Peaks, Culture Abuse, Worriers, Tusky and Drones.

They then head to Wiesbaden, Germany on 28 October, where they take over the Schlachthof with a bill featuring Silverstein, Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Cancer Bats, Black Peaks, Worriers and Tusky.

In a statemen, the band say, “Anti-Flag have always seen punk rock as a vehicle for change; community leads to recognizing commonality, which leads to a recognition of our collective power, which leads to us knowing we have the power to create the future we want to see.

“This tour, this line-up, eclectic in sonics but all bands believe in sharing empathy over apathy, optimism over cynicism. The goal is to bring people from all walks of life through the door. Introducing them to new people, new friendships, new ideas.

“As with any Anti-Flag tour, records, bands, and t-shirts are not the predications of our work. Amnesty International, Sea Shepherd, Kein Bock Auf Nazis, (and hopefully many other local organizations) will be involved. Disseminating ideas on how to fight fascism, fight for human rights and fight for the life of our planet at every show. At a time when we see the right and fascism as a whole on the rise, racism being emboldened, and hatred commonplace in public discourse… these shows will hopefully provide solace, a place for us all to come together and recognize our power, recharge our strength and continue to fight bigotry with every breath we take.”

THE LIVING END ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM!

Aussie rockers THE LIVING END return this Autumn with a brand new album.

The Melbourne band’s eighth album, Wunderbar follows on from 2016’s Shift and will be released worldwide through Rise/BMG Records on 28 September. You can hear the first single ‘Don’t Lose It’ above.

Originally formed in 1994 as The Runaway Boys in homage to their heroes THE STRAY CATS, the band quickly moved away from rockabilly towards punk as they found themselves supporting the likes of GREEN DAY and THE OFFSPRING on Down Under tours. Following a string of singles and EPs, when they finally released their self-titled debut album in 1998, it rocketed to No.1 in the Australian album chart, becoming the second-highest selling album in Australian rock history, with quadruple-platinum sales. Since then, all but one of their albums has reached the Top 5.

For the recording of Wunderbar, guitarist Chirs Cheney, bassist Scott Owen and drummer Andy Strachan ensconced themselves in a studio in Berlin for six weeks with producer Tobias Kuhn, also known for his work with DIE TOTEN HOSEN.

“Berlin’s such an amazing place,” explains Scott. “There’s no better place in the world for rock and roll bands to make dirty, gritty rock and roll music.”

Wunderbar is available to pre-order here.
