In celebration of turning 60, semi-legendary musician TERRY EDWARDS has curated two new archive anthologies.
One of the UK's most loved, trusted and sought-after multi-instrumentalists, arrangers and producers, Edwards is perhaps best-known as founder of punk-funk pioneers THE HIGSONS and his subsequent membership of GALLON DRUNK, PJ HARVEY's HOPE SIX DEMOLITION PROJECT and his own bands THE SCAPEGOATS and more recently THE N.J.E.
He's also loaned his considerable talents to Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Glen Matlock, Madness, Tindersticks, Julian Cope, Robyn Hitchcock, The Blockheads, Siouxsie Sioux, Spiritualized, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Tony Visconti and Woody Woodmansey's Holy Holy and many more besides.
Set for release on Saturday 29 August, Stop Trying To Sell Me Back My Past (vol 1) is a Record Store Day exclusive, delayed by Covid-19 since 18 April. The limited edition double vinyl album comprises his 90s covers EPs, featuring his own interpretations of songs by The Fall, The Jesus & Mary Chain, Sex Pistols, The Damned and The Cure among others.
This will be followed on Friday 4 September by Very Terry Edwards, a three-CD collection featuring 60 of Edwards' favourite works and collaborations from the past 40-plus years, including tracks by The Higsons, Gallon Drunk, The Scapegoats, Glen Matlock, Vic Godard, Rhoda Dakar, The Nightingales, Franz Ferdinand, The Blockheads, Snuff and 50 more.
As an exclusive Vive Le Rock! premiere, Edwards has unearthed a vintage previously unreleased video for his rendition of The Cure's classic 'Friday I'm In Love', which features on both compilations.
"Who doesn't love this Cure song?" he asks. "The video was shot in The Garage at Highbury Corner… a very long time ago! The eagle-eyed will notice the homage to the Talking Heads' clip for 'Once In A Lifetime', but if anyone can tell me what the bit of plot is with the two Japanese ladies - whom I never met - please enlighten me! Enjoy."
Released through Sartorial Records via Cargo, Very Terry Edwards is available to pre-order here.
The N.J.E.'s latest single 'Tizita' is available here.
