A new movie is set to shine a spotlight on the psychobilly scene and the makers want your help...
Big Psychobilly Movie is the brainchild of two Russian directors, Kyrill Ermichev and Ivan Bortnikov. A member of St Petersburg band Scary BOOM, Ermichev had also written a book Russian Psycho Attack, which inspired the project.
The film features members of bands including Batmobile, Demented Are Go, Reverend Horton Heat, Frenzy, The Quakes, Surf Rats, Basementones, Rattlesnakes, Mad Sin and many more. Artists, tattooists, hairdressers and gig organisers have also taken part in the project.
The aim of the film is to explore the theme and aesthetics of the genre "...whose special mission is to be a binding thread, a bridge between modern musical culture and the golden age of rock and roll".
"At the age of 13, in 1987, I heard Batmobile's 'Slapping Suspenders' and was bewitched by this music," explains Ermichev. "I want to share this feeling with the audience of the film. Meeting the participants of the film, I found great pleasure in the atmosphere of friendship and like-mindedness, which knows no borders. We did not waste our time and energy on trifles like politics. We talked only about music. I don’t want to not pick out anyone, but of course, as a director, I love those who great storytellers."
With the movie expected to be completed next year, the makers are asking for contributions of photographs and video footage, assistance with distribution and premieres and for pre-orders and donations. They can be contacted at thescaryboom@gmail.com
