JON SPENCER ANNOUNCES SOLO ALBUM!

NYC punk-blues legend JON SPENCER returns returns in the Autumn with his debut solo album and a bunch of live dates.
Spencer Sings The Hits is to be released through In The Red Records on 2 November and features the single 'Do The Trash Can', shown here.
To make the record, Spencer headed out to the Key Club Recording Comapany in sleepy Benton Harbor, Michigan where the BLUES EXPLOSION made 2012's Meat and Bone to lay down tracks with Bill Skibbe, who also produced the most recent BOSS HOG album Brood X, along with keyboard player Sam Coombes and drummer M Sord.
Says Spencer, “Sam is someone with whom I have crossed paths many times over the years. I have always been a fan of his wild keyboard style and twisted tunesmith-ery. (In fact we kicked around the idea of a collaboration way back in the early aughts.) I got to know Sord from previous visits to and projects done at the Key Club, he was the handyman and assistant engineer that turned out to be a great drummer.”
Laying down the basic track during late 2017, the sessions were brought to an abrupt halt when Spencer was forced to return to New York on the sudden death of his father-in-law.
“I had to rush back East to be with family," he explains. “But we accomplished enough - got basics down for all songs. I went back to Michigan (solo) in January to overdub and mix. In general, throughout the project, I tried not to overthink anything and instead just kept pushing forward, trusting in my instincts. I figured that I had already spent months and years thinking about this record and these songs.”
Set for release on 2 November, Spencer Sings The Hits is available to pre-order here.
