JESSE MALIN ANNOUNCES DATES

JESSE MALIN is to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of his debut solo album with a European tour.

A new expanded 2xCD edition of the 2003 album The Fine Art Of Self Destruction will also be released early next year to coincide with the dates.

Malin made is name fronting NYC glam-punks D Generation until they split in 1999. In 2001 he hooked up with Americana star Ryan Adams, who produced his debut album, recorded with various members of Psychedelic Furs among others and initially released through Artemis Records in October 2002.

“It wasn’t named for drug or alcohol abuse,” Malin explains. “It was more about personal wreckage when I looked back on my life, from my parents' divorce to failed relationships, broken up bands, dropping out of school, crashing cars, breaking things. It was more of a spiritual journey in some sense.

“I was still learning how to sing and tell stories," he continues. "I had started out stripped down, just me and a piano player, but when Ryan Adams came in to produce, he added some instrumentation that really lent itself to a more open, wider feel. These songs were written in a little apartment downtown, without a record deal, a manager, or any expectation of anything coming of it - just a need to write them.”

The album's bonus tracks include a new version of the song 'Brooklyn' retitled ‘Brooklyn (Walt Whitman in the Trash)’, which has been set to a new video directed by Catherine Popper and Vivian Wang. “Cat and Vivian have a great sense of beauty, art and decay,” says Malin. “‘Brooklyn’ is about beginnings, those early days of innocence and big dreams that often collide with irreversible mistakes and regret. We try to find ways to accept the mistakes and look back with laughter, forgiveness and love.”
