New Jersey punks BEACH RATS have just unveiled a new video as a taster for their forthcoming debut album.
'Rat Beat' is the title track from the album which is due out at the end of July through Epitaph.
Coming together in the seaside town of Asbury Park, Beach Rats boast an impressive line-up featuring vocalist Ari Katz (Lifetime), guitarist Pete Steinkopf (Bouncing Souls,) bassist Bryan Kienlen (Bouncing Souls,) guitarist Brian Baker (Bad Religion, Minor Threat) and Danny Windas (Let It Burn) on drums.
After releasing the five-track Wasted Time EP in 2018, which they matched with a bunch of high-energy gigs, the band convened in Baker's basement to knock the songs into shape for their debut album, finally laying them down in the space of a single day at Lakehouse Studios once more working with engineer Eric Bennett.
"We’d go down in the basement, put on masks, open the windows and we could play – within CDC guidelines!," recalls Baker. "We couldn’t go to dinner at each other’s houses but we could practice.”
"You’re gonna get authentic punk and hardcore from Beach Rats because we are all from the 80s," Kienlen assures us. "It’s literally taking it back to some of our biggest influences like Negative Approach and Poison Idea, and of course, Minor Threat.”
Set for release on 29 July, Rat Beat is available to pre-order here.
