TOM WAITS
LTD EDITION 7” SINGLE IN SUPPORT OF “RECORD STORE DAY” 18th APRIL
Tom Waits releases an exclusive ltd edition 7” single through Anti- Records on 18th April in support of ‘Record Store Day’. Waits, a firm believer in the importance of the independent record shop, had this to say; “The record store is the livery stable where I can tie up, feed and groom my ears.” Recorded during last summer’s critically acclaimed “Glitter & Doom” tour, the single features “Lucinda/Ain’t Goin’ Down to the Well” (recorded at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA) and “Bottom of the World” (recorded at the Edinburgh Playhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland) on the flipside.
‘Record Store Day’ is a celebration of the independent record shop. The event, which was launched in 2008, has now become an annual fixture involving 1000’s of independent record shops and musicians across the world. Supported by artists such as Jack White, Paul McCartney, Metallica and many others, the occasion features exclusive CD and vinyl releases, instore appearances and promotional products created especially for the event.
Waits, who is currently working on material for a new album, drew rave reviews during his European tour last year. The Guardian had this to say of his Edinburgh show; “Waits is an utterly magnetic performer…it seems less like you’ve bought a ticket to a concert than to a different world.” The Times concurred; “Waits wove a spell as intricate and engaging as that of any performer I can remember seeing on a musical stage,” whilst the Daily Telegraph declared; “For a couple of hours every night on the Glitter and Doom tour, with Waits as lightning conductor, whipping up the band, stirring up his demons and roaring up a storm, he puts on what is, quite simply, the greatest show on earth.”
