Garage-rockin' New Zealanders THE RAW NERVES have just issued a new four-track EP.
The third in a series of EPs, the Auckland quartet wasted no time in putting Serious Beef together and its quickfire lick'n'stick approach reaps dividends.
"We recorded the Serious Beef EP in a couple of hours in our drummer's living room, in the beautiful Auckland suburb of Mount Albert," says guitarist Dave Taylor. "I think it's the best stuff we've done. 'Serious Beef' is about someone being annoyed with you, but not talking about it. I tried to sell the song to a prominent chain of butchers over here in New Zealand - 'The Mad Butcher'. I said we could make it literally about serious pieces of beef and they could use it in an advert. They said thanks but no thanks.
"'Life Has Dulled My Senses' is about the crushing realisation that not even Night Moves by BOB SEGER can pull you out of an all encompassing numbness. It's a dark place to be in. Luckily, it's a place we only visit sometimes.
"The final track 'Emotions Are Hard' is proof of our collective obsession with [Nashville trio] NATURAL CHILD. They're the best band on the planet"
Serious Beef is available now through Bandcamp.
