The pUKEs are a (nearly) all female punk ukulele band based in London. They play songs by the likes of Dead Kennedys, Exploited, Xray Spex, The Clash, etc like you never heard ‘em before, as well as their own original tunes.
Their massive stage presence and raucous live show – which features anything from eight to 20 players – has landed them festival appearances such as Rebellion, Liverpool Sound City and Shoreditch 1234, as well as support slots with many of the bands who inspired them. Around half the band were complete beginners when they started playing together in 2011, others are – or have been – in bands such as UK Subs, Lost Cherrees, Infa Riot, The Ramonas and Rabies Babies.
In 2013 the band released their debut EP on Damaged Goods records and were awarded Arts Council England funding to run uke workshops at festivals and produce a fanzine.
