16-18 Whitechapel Road, London, E1 1EW THE BEAT, LIVE @ THE RHYTHM FACTORY, FRIDAY 18/09/09 20:00 TIL LATE The Rhythm Factory is delighted to launch its brand new monthly Mod/Ska/Soul night Absolute Beginners with a special one-off performance from none other than Two-Tone legends The Beat. Formed in the working class suburbs of industrial Birmingham in England in 1978 The Beat arose at a time of high unemployment and social upheaval. From the outset the band offered messages of hope and peace with an insight into sociopolitical topics would later, alongside The Specials, see them heralded as forerunners of the whole 2-Tone Ska movement. Crossing over fluidly between soul, reggae, pop and punk, they created an infectious dance rhythm that lit up dancefloors across the U.K eventually leading to huge radio airplay in the U.S and stateside tours with the likes of The Clash, The Police, Talking Heads, The Pretenders and, of course, The Specials. Scoring hits with tunes that have now become so popular that it's hard to remember a time when they didn't exist, such as "Mirror in the Bathroom", "Save it for Later", "I Confess", "Stand Down Margaret", and their awesome cover of Smokey Robinson’s ‘Tears of a Clown’, The Beat released three gold and platinum selling best-selling albums worldwide; Just Can’t Stop It, Wh’appen and Special Beat Service before splitting up in the early 80’s. After numerous offers to return to the stage The Beat returned in 2003 for a sell out show at The Royal Festival Hall and have stayed on the live circuit ever since, selling out shows and getting crowds skanking like they’d never been away. This superb Rhythm Factory promotion will also feature a plethora of special guests including Acid Jazz legend Eddie Piller behind the decks and many more. Tickets are £15 and are available in advance from Rhythm Factory box office 020 7375 3774 and <file:///C:/Users/dan%20payne/Desktop/freelance%20ting/Rhythm%20Factory/www.>
