Aussie legends THE BEASTS OF BOURBON return with a new album and a new name: THE BEASTS STILL HERE.
First coming together in 1983, the Beasts coalesced around various musicians on the Australian underground scene during downtime in their existing careers. Since then they’ve gone on to become one of the most highly revered bands on that circuit, as well as earning serious kudos on an international status.
Following on from the band’s final show, and the death of Beasts bassist Brian Hooper, mainman Tex Perkins corralled the existing members in the studio to see what would transpire.
The sessions brought together Perkins and longstanding Beasts drummer Tony Pola, guitarist Charlie Owen (also from The New Christs) and guitarist Kim Salmon and bassist Boris Sujdovic (The Scientists). Also making one cut was original guitarist Spencer P Jones, who would sadly succumb to cancer in August last year.
The result is the 12-track album Still Here featuring some of the band’s best material in years, including covers of Frank Zappa’s ‘The Torture Never Stops’ and Warren Zevon’s ‘My Shit’s Fucked Up’, plus Jones’ chillingly poignant ‘At The Hospital’.
Still Here is set for release through Bang! Records on 15 February. In the meantime, the band have unveiled a video for the excellent track ‘On My Back’…
