THE BEAST IS BACK!

THE BEAST IS BACK!

JAZ COLEMAN returns with a new choral composition based on the work of legendary occultist Aleister Crowley.

A poet, novellist, painter and 'ceremonial magician', Crowley founded the religion Thelema in the early 20th Century, emphasising free will and the axiom "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law".

A longtime scholar of Crowley, Coleman has based his new work Liber AL vel Legis (The Book of the Law), his mystical text from 1904 which which laid the foundation of Thelema.

“Few have influenced the post-war bubble of counterculture quite like Crowley," says Coleman. "Regardless of one’s opinion of this controversial character, he is ranked among the top 100 most influential individuals of the United Kingdom. And as everyone knows, his face graces the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the Beatles’ most iconic masterpiece. It is therefore a great honour to compose Liber AL as a ritual-istic choral work, to commemorate his great magnum opus. It is the commission of my life!”

Merging classical and modern elements, details of performances will be announced soon.
