Italian punk-blues iconoclast STIV CANTARELLI has announced a new solo E.P. and a one-off London date.
Having severely dented the U.K. alternative blues and garage scene over the past couple of years with the acclaimed Banks Of The Lea album - recorded at East London's famed Gizzard studio - and dates with LEFT LANE CRUISER and at the legendary Dirty Water Club, Stiv and his band THE SILENT STRANGERS entered a hiatus.
Cantarelli, however, has not been idle, and has recorded several tracks at his home base in Florence, backed only by a Roland TR-626 drum machine. The five primal punk-blues recordings are set to see the light of day during the summer under the name JAMES DEAN HANGOVER.
A new Silent Strangers album is, however, promised for the not too distant future.
In the meantime, Cantarelli plays a one-off set at a new alternative blues night, Beat, Bop & Blues, at Grow in London's Hackney Wick on Friday 22 April. Also on the bill are THE DUBLO, featuring Pete Bennett of Blackpool garage-punks MONKEY ISLAND (and more recently THE MEMBRANES), Essex blues-rockers MOLLYS DAGGERS, CRAIG SHAW & THE EXCELLOS and GEORGES KAPLAN PRESENTS.
