The history of Australia's hugely influential and dynamic punk scene is to be documented in not one, but TWO new books.
Originally planned as a single volume, author Tristan Clark's thorough history proved so expansive and unwieldy as to be split into two books.
Taking their name from a track on The Saints' legendary second album Eternally Yours, Orstralia: A Punk History 1974-1989 and Orstralia: A Punk History 1990-1999 cover the scene from its early regional beginnings though its rise to national then global success, examining along the way the cultural context and sociological concerns.
Along with The Saints (pictured), the books draw on extensive interviews with members of Radio Birdman, Boys Next Door/Birthday Party, Victims, Leftovers, Fun Things, Zero, Psycho Surgeons, X, Depression, Hard-Ons, Cosmic Psychos The Living End, Frenzal Rhomb and many, many more...
Set to be published by PM Press on 9 July, Orstralia: A Punk History 1974-1989 is available to pre-order here, and Orstralia: A Punk History 1990-1999 is available here.
