RAMBOW RISING!

RAMBOW RISING!

PHILIP RAMBOW, former frontman of pub rockers and New Wave precursors THE WINKIES, plays a rare solo show in London this week.

With a new album Whatever Happened To Phil Rambow just released, he plays The Railway Tavern, Dalston on Thursday 4 February. He'll be joined on guitar by Martin Belmont of DUCKS DELUXE, NICK LOWE and GRAHAM PARKER & THE RUMOUR fame. Co-headliner is roots-rocker BOB COLLUM.

Formed in 1973, The Winkies grasped a certain kudos for being recruited by BRIAN ENO as backing band on his only solo tour off the back of his Here Come The Warm Jets album. The band released one album, produced by CLASH and MOTT THE HOOPLE producer Guy Stevens, before splitting, with rhythm section Brian Turrington and Michael Desmarais joining Stiff signees THE TYLA GANG and Rambow going on to a solo career, appearing at the historic Front Row Festival at London's legendary Hope & Anchor in late '77.
