PIECE OF THE ACTION!

PIECE OF THE ACTION!

North London mod legends THE ACTION are the subject of a new career-spanning box set.
Although they only released six singles in their lifetime, none of which were hits, the Kentish Town band have become revered as one of the finest outfits of the original mod heyday, eventually evolving into free-flowing psych rock faves MIGHTY BABY during the late 60s and early 70s.
The Action were the first band signed by Beatles producer George Martin after he left EMI to set up his own company AIR Productions. In due course, he produced the band’s five singles issued on Parlophone between 1965 and 1967 as well as tracks intended for a never-released album.
All those tracks are included in the 4-disc Shadows & Reflections: The Complete Recordings 1964-1968. The set also brings together TV and radio recordings, rehearsal, demo and audition tapes and alternative mixes, many of which are available on CD for the first time, making it the band's most comprehensive anthology ever.
The set is rounded out with a 36-page booklet, including numerous rare and unseen photos and 16,000-word sleevenotes by Action authority David Wells.
Set for release on Grapefruit through Cherry Red on 26 October, Shadows & Reflections: The Complete Recordings 1964-1968 is available to pre-order here.
