PETER MURPHY LAUNCHES LABEL AND LIVE ALBUMS

Former BAUHAUS frontman PETER MURPHY is launching his own record label with two new live albums.

A collaboration with distributor Cadiz Music, Murphy's Silver Shade Records' inaugural releases will be Peter Live - Vol One – Covers and Peter Live – Vol Two - The Blender Theater NYC 2008, both set for release on 21 June.

As the name implies, Peter Live - Vol One – Covers finds the singer putting his stamp on a diverse array of other people's songs, including Bowie's 'Space Oddity', Prince's 'Purple Rain', Pere Ubu's 'Final Solution' and Nine Inch Nails' 'Hurt'.

“There’s no point in covering a song unless of course it’s got you somewhere in there," says Murphy. "To have chosen ‘Purple Rain’ was at the time of the general expectation that I would opt for some lame purposely naff ‘alternative’ song was and is a stroke of genius in action. The audio might be wanting on a couple of songs, but if that puts you off, then go and listen to any of the thousand mediocre songs of some tiresome star.”

Peter Live – Vol Two - The Blender Theater NYC 2008, meanwhile, is a previously unreleased 18-track double album of Murphy and his band in New York during a period of renewed live activity.

Following these releases, the label will continue to be a platform for Murphy's live releases and solo album reissues.
