Gary Numan has just announced a series of dates in 2009, following his first Australian tour in nearly 30 years in March. Numan is also working on two new albums ˆ Dead Son Rising, an album of new tracks built out of demos he re-discovered last year, and Splinter, the full follow-up to 2006's Jagged, which will be released in early 2010. He's also recently released a DVD of the 2008 Replicas Tour, which reached Number 3 in the UK chart.
Numan is one of the most covered and remixed artists of the last 30 years. A roll call of those artists who have performed or sampled his songs is virtually a who's who of modern music. They include Damon Albarn (Blur), Afrika Bambaataa, Jarvis Cocker, The Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Sugababes, Basement Jaxx, Smashing Pumpkins, St Etienne, GZA from the Wu-Tang Clan, Armand Van Helden and DJ Hell.
The likes of Kurt Cobain, Devo and Tricky have also namechecked him as an influence, a trend that is continuing with a new generation of artists such as Little Boots, Late Of The Pier and Santogold. As the NME now argue, 'Numan's influence on electronic music is unparalleled.'
