Mod Mania
A Truly British Phenomenon
Release Date: April 26th Label: UMTV
The mod revival starts now with the launch of this definitive double CD, showcasing the greatest tracks that defined a generation.
Rediscover the sub-culture of mods: the flamboyant fashion, screeching scooters and constant clubbing which is epitomised through hit tracks from the likes of The Who, The Kinks, Georgie Fame, The Spencer Davis Group and The Small Faces. The distinctive blending of British Rhythm and Blues and classic American Soul is revitalised on this superb double disc album, providing the soundtrack to the days when a fishtail parka covered a sharply dressed teenager in a post-war Britain.
This is not to overshadow the mod revival of the late 70s, where classic artists such as Secret Affair, The Lambrettas, Purple Hearts and the biggest of them all The Jam produced timeless anthems which united the scooter wielding modernists.
The third wave of mod culture is already upon us. The Who played this year’s Super Bowl and revisited their classic Quadrophenia soundtrack, reproducing the album in its entirety during a live performance at the Albert Hall and this Autumn also sees the eagerly awaited remake of the iconic British movie Brighton Rock. Starring Sam Riley, Pete Postlethwaite and Helen Mirren, this rewritten interpretation brings the story forward into the 60s and features legions of mods, an assembly of scooters and of course, their music. Fred Perry and Ben Sherman are releasing their new mod fashion ranges and Paul Weller (The Modfather) of featured band The Jam was recently crowned a God Like Genius at this year’s NME Awards. Last year’s Ska Mania has sold over 150,000 copies and Mod Mania is also set for mass appeal to the in crowd.
You may not have to worry about the threat of rockers and police anymore, but the music lives on. It’s time to rev up that Lambretta and get ready for Mod Mania.
