Tim Burgess from the Charlatans has released a limited 300 pressing of the Membranes new single.

It's a joint single with great new London band Throwing Up

Legendary influential UK underground band the Membranes have been gearing up since they were asked to reform by My Bloody Valentine for the ATP that they curated. The gig went down so well that the Membranes decided to reform for special gigs and projects instead of the retro circuit.

Shellac asked them to play the ATP they curated last year and Steve Albini said they were one of the best bands to appear at the event.

Last July the Membranes put on a sold out show at Manchester Gorilla venue called 'the Universe Explained' where they got scientists from the CERN project to explain particle physics with in conversations with Membranes mainman John Robb, a string quartet playing specially commissioned music about the universe and a recreation of the Higgs Boson particle experiment as well as films and a great talk from a scientist on how life forms in the universe.

They plan to bring the event to London this year and are in talks with venues in Tokyo, Moscow and New York and Berlin to do the same as well as playing the CERN project in Geneva.

The single is the first track from their all new set which will be released as an album this year that will attempt to explain the universe called 'Dark Matter'

The band also have Steve Hanley- the legendary Fall bassist playing bass for them now.

They will also finally be appearing on the C*6 album when their influence on the whole of that scene is finally recognised with their inclusion on the album and the July gig

Formed in Blackpool in 1978 the Membranes were post punk noisenik outfit who influenced many bands on the UK undergound in the 80s .
