Punk festival favourites MC16 are back with a new single and video.
'Standard Class' is the first track to be aired from the band's forthcoming second album We're Gonna Need A Milkman, which follows quickly on from last year's debut Machine Code, one of Vive Le Rock's Top 50 Albums of 2025.
“'Standard' Class is about the fact our country is full of incredibly creative people yet everything created is so bland and price-driven,” explains drummer Duffy.
“Art and Design Colleges would be better off teaching students how to make things cheaply,
not brilliantly, as most people buy their art from Dunelm, not art galleries and fairs,” bassist Quinn adds.
The video for the track was created by Hutch Films and features punk scene legend and artist Sophie Carabott.
The album was recorded once more with Dave Draper (The Wildhearts, Michael Monroe) at the OId Cider Press Studios in Worcestershire. Explaining the cryptic title, the band say “Trouble on your doorstep? Need the police? Nah, we’re gonna need a milkman. The public trust in milkmen is high! (yet only 62 % for the police according to the recent YouGov poll). The Milkman’s early morning whistling is the soundtrack of a happy society. Keep Calm and Carry On! Everything is going to be ok!”
"This album is not as political as the last one." adds Duffy. "Politics gets us really angry which kind of dictates what the songs turn out like so we wanted this album to be more personal because we can actually be happy sometimes.”
Released through Neverlution, 'Standard Class' is out today with We're Gonna Need A Milkman set to follow on 28th August. It's available to pre-order here.
However, exclusive pre-release copies of the album will be available from the band at Rebellion next weekend, where you can catch them on the Arena Stage on Sunday afternoon.
