KILLING JOKE PLAY ATP

ORIGINAL LINE UP KILLING JOKE + 5 more confirmed for
ATP: The Fans Strike Back festival, May 2009!

KILLING JOKE are one of the most exciting acts to be picked so far for this May’s forthcoming ATP: Fans Strike Back event. For this festival half of the line-up is chosen by All Tomorrow’s Parties and the other half is voted for by every fan that buys a ticket. Today sees the addition of six new artists to this event, which takes place from the 8th-10th May 2009 at Butlins Holiday Resort, Minehead, England.  Tickets are on sale now and are selling fast!

First are three new additions to the FANS voted side of the bill:
Legendary post-punk giants KILLING JOKE return with their original line-up. They are one of the most influential British rock bands of all time; not only being a major influence on the emergence of the Industrial genre, and having a much wider influence on many forms of rock music over their 13 album lifespan; but also achieving some popular success and major cult success worldwide. They have been covered by bands including Metallica and Foo Fighters (Dave Grohl later drummed on the band’s 2003 self-titled record). LCD’s Soundsystem’s Losing My Edge is arguably based on Killing Joke’s Change, and Nirvana famously gave up the royalties to Come As You Are after admitting they’d stolen it’s riff from Killing Joke’s Eighties. 2009 will be their 30th anniversary.

Other Fan voted bands this week are THE MAE SHI (who recently turned heads with a tribute song to Christian Bale) and SCHOOL OF SEVEN BELLS. Here’s what the fans have picked so far with many more to come:
KILLING JOKE / BEIRUT / M83 / ELECTRIC WIZARD / MARNIE STERN / FUTURE OF THE LEFT / ERRORS / PARTS AND LABOR / JEFFREY LEWIS & THE JUNKYARD / THE MAE SHI / SCHOOL OF SEVEN BELLS

In addition ATP have added LIAM FINN (son of Crowded House’s Neil), post-rock newcomers THIS WILL DESTROY YOU and alt-folk act HUSH ARBORS to their side of the bill. Here’s what ATP have chosen so far:
THE JESUS LIZARD / DEVO / SLEEP performing Holy Mountain, selections from Dopesmoker + more / SPIRITUALIZED  / YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS perform Colossal Youth /
ANTIPOP CONSORTIUM / GRAILS / SLEEPY SUN / THE CAVE SINGERS / RETRIBUTION GOSPEL CHOIR / HEALTH / SHEARWATER / THE ACORN / THE PINK MOUNTAINTOPS / QUI / LIAM FINN / THIS WILL DESTROY YOU / HUSH ARBORS

Continuing their tradition of mixing artistic fields; ATP have also invited Pete Fowler (most famous for his work with Super Furry Animals) to present an exhibition of his work at this event.
