National treasure John Lydon visits hmv to sign copies of his new autobiography ‘Anger is an energy: My Life Uncensored’. The London event will be strictly limited to 300 fans who gain access by obtaining a wristband with purchase of the book from 9th October.
Always outspoken, controversial and sincere, John Lydon, formerly Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols and then lead singer of Public Image Ltd (PiL), looks back on his extraordinary life in a memoir that will be full of surprises, humour and emotion. ‘Anger Is An Energy’ will be a fresh and mature look back on a life full of incident from his beginnings as a sickly child of immigrant Irish parents who grew up in post-war London, to his present status as a vibrant, alternative national hero. John writes “this book is about the life of a risk taker. I make things safe for other people to follow in my wake.”
An enduring icon in the British musical landscape across four decades, John has released an array of eclectic records. As the notorious Sex Pistols’ frontman he spearheaded a countercultural movement of young people from around the world, who were clamouring for change – and found it in the style and attitude of this most unlikely figurehead. His controversial image, songwriting and performance style combined with a razor sharp wit and frank social commentary incited discussion about John in the Houses of Parliament under the Traitors and Treasons Act, which still carries the death penalty. Following the Sex Pistols, John reinvented himself as the founder of experimental outfit PiL, setting in place a blueprint for a band that continues to challenge and thrive in the 2010s. Not content with leading two of the most iconic British bands, John has also collaborated with the likes of Africa Baambaata and Leftfield on innovative dance tracks.
