RICHARD LLOYD, former guitarist with CBGB's legends TELEVISION has recently been diagnosed with cancer and is unable to tour.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for medical expenses and support while undergoing treatment.
Formed in 1973, Television were the first band to establish what became the NYC punk scene, helping to build the stage at CBGB's, paving the way for bands like Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, etc to follow in their wake.
The released their debut album Marquee Moon in 1977, which has gone on to become one of the most influential and well-loved albums of the punk and post-punk era and beyond, noted particularly for the inventive and inspiring guitar interplay of Lloyd and fellow guitarist Tom Verlaine.
Says Lloyd's current band mate and co-host of the GuFundMe page Sean Seymour, "In March 2026, Richard was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a serious form of bile duct cancer. He has tumors in his liver, including one located dangerously close to a major blood vessel. Because of its location, doctors cannot safely operate to remove it at this time. Since his diagnosis, Richard has been through an extraordinary amount. He has been in the ICU seven times, dealing with serious complications including sepsis twice, as well as complications involving his liver and kidneys. And through all of this, he’s fighting."
“I am usually a pretty upbeat person and I am taking this in stride, but it has become very difficult on our own and financially we are strapped," says Lloyd. "That’s why I’m asking for your help.
