San Francisco legends FLAMIN' GROOVIES hit the UK this autumn in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of their classic album and single Shake Some Action.
Formed in 1965, their love of early rock'n'roll was at odds with the prevailing psych scene, but they powered through becoming an internationally renowned cult act with primal garage stompers like 'Slow Death', 'Teenage Head' and 'Headin' For the Texas Border'.
Fast forward to the mid-70s and the band relocated to the UK, cut their hair and embraced New Wave and power-pop, releasing the Dave Edmunds-produced Shake Some Action album through Sire in '76. Its title track has gone on to become an iconic touchstone, covered live and on record by thousands, if not millions, of bands and artists over the years.
That summer also saw a crucial 4th July gig at London's Roundhouse with the band supported by the Ramones and The Stranglers.
Still featuring founding guitarist and singer Cyril Jordan, the band have lined up five UK shows including a London date at the 229 Club. Full dates are...
