FRESHKILLS

FRESHKILLS
>
> “Thunderous sexy bass over math-y rhythms and a saucy twin-guitar attack -- good stuff!” – Village Voice
>  “Brimming with turmoil and anger while keeping hold of a hip swaggering shake. This Brooklyn quintet is the shit!” -- Ghetto Blaster
> Sharing the same name as an infamous NYC toxic waste dump, Brooklyn five piece Freshkills are anything but a waste and will be found toxic only to your boredom. “Not another indie band from Brooklyn!!!” you cry, but Freshkills are an unexpected change of pace, leading the NY underground sound to even darker depths yet unplumbed by their peers.
>
> Comprised of vocalist Zachary Lipez, guitarists Johnny Rauberts and Timothy Murray, bassist Mishka Shubaly and drummer Jim Paradise, Freshkills proudly wear late 80s post-punk Dischord-era influences on their collective sleeve, Freshkills take the manic fury of bands like Nation of Ulysses and Drive Like Jehu, and nail that sound to the wall. Each song has the feel of a mini-apocalypse: redlined vocals infused with paranoia and a twisted vulnerability, ominously churning rhythms that slowly throb into overdrive and breathtaking dual guitar work with subtly infectious hooks.
>
> Freshkills’ discography is concise but powerful. Their debut EP, the poetic, jarring Creeps and Lovers (Arclight Records 2006), was produced by NYC hardcore stalwart Joel Hamilton and earned enthusiastic reviews from publications such as Vice and Punk Planet. Freshkills, a self-released, self-titled album, recorded under the guidance of producer Alex Newport (At The Drive-In, The Locust, Two Gallants), emphasizes streamlined song structures without sacrificing any of their dissonance, dark sarcasm or cutting social commentary, the result is immediate, unsettling and enduring. Most recently, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s guitarist Nick Zinner has contributed a remix to Freshkills’ Revelations Remix album.

> A sure-fire opening slot favorite, Freshkills have done the honors before an array of prominent acts including The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Blonde Redhead and Fiery Furnaces. Upcoming UK tour dates are:
