Original London punks EATER are to get the deluxe treatment next month when their sole album – The Album - is reissued through Cherry Red.
First released in 1977, the latest model comprises the whole original album, plus a second disc of rare singles and compilation tracks – essentially their complete recorded output.
Formed in North London in ’76 by four schoolfriends, Eater’s profile was boosted on the teen scene thanks to fresh-faced 14-year-old drummer Dee Generate. Playing their first gig in Manchester supported by Buzzcocks, they were one of the first bands to play legendary punk venue The Roxy, supported by The Damned and Johnny Moped. They featured on the Live At The Roxy WC2 album and in Don Letts’ seminal screen document Punk Rock Movie.
Reuniting for occasional gigs in recent years, frontman Andy Blade published a memoir The Secret Life Of A Teenage Punk Rocker in 2005.
Watch Eater playing ‘Thinking Of The USA’ at Holdiays In The Sun Festival, 1996.
