Ace Records are to issue a new compilation album bringing together female artists from the world of Goth and beyond.
Dressed In Black - Goth Divas From The Dark Side 1941 - 2025 was curated and annotated by writer Cathi Unsworth, author of the 2024 book Season Of The Witch: The Book Of Goth.
As the title suggests, though, the anthology doesn't just cover the popular 80s Goth period: while the nineteen tracks on CD and double-vinyl include the likes of Siouxsie (also on the cover), Danielle Dax, Diamanda Galas and The Cramps, it also looks at the world of folk (Shirley Collins, Karen Dalton, Judy Henske), country (Bobby Gentry) and jazz (Nina Simone, Billy Holiday), with sounds from the 60s (Velvet Underground & Nico, Julie Driscoll & Brian Auger) to the present day (Anna Calvi, MUMMY).
