Aussie punk legend JAMES BAKER has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and a fundraising page has been set up to help pay for his care.
A key figure on the Australian underground scene since the mid-70s, Baker played in Perth legends The Victims, before becoming the first drummer in The Scientists. In 1981 he co-founded the Hoodoo Gurus with Victims bandmate Dave Faulkner, playing on their classic debut album Stoneage Romeos.
Baker later joined supergroup The Beasts Of Bourbon, as well as The Dubrovniks with former members of The Scientists and the Gurus. In recent years, Baker and Faulkner reformed The Victims with the Hard-Ons' Ray Ahn to play shows and record early Victims songs.
Since Baker was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer nine years ago, his partner Cathy has been forced to give up fulltime work to care for him alongside his specialist medical team.
Now music industry charity Support Act have set up a 'Help A Mate' page to help pay for Baker's medical care and household expenses, with a target of $50,000 AUD.
