CULT BAND ‘DEAF SCHOOL’ HIT THE ROAD WITH FIVE NEW SONGS ** FIVE new songs have been recorded by the legendary cult band Deaf School as they kick-off two London warm-up dates in advance of a summer festival appearance. The seven-piece band, who were formed in Liverpool in the 1970’s, made a triumphant return to live concerts last year with ten sell-out appearances, before going back into the studio to record new material. Front man Enrico Cadillac (aka Steve Allen) said: “The new songs are in the great tradition of Deaf School – big arrangements and big themes. We have really been on fire in the studio – these songs are amongst our best ever work.” Deaf School play the Dublin Castle in Camden Parkway next Thursday, August 5 th and Friday August 6th, before appearing at Newmarket’s Fordham Festival on Saturday August 7th. Other dates are already being lined up for the band, who last year drew celebrity fans such as Glen Matlock, Holly Johnson and Kevin Rowland to their live shows. Madness front man Suggs is also a regular – he is married to Deaf School vocalist Bette Bright. The Deaf School line-up includes leading record producer Clive Langer (David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Madness, Morrisey) on guitar; the Rev Max Ripple (aka John Wood) the Head of Design at London’s Goldsmith’s College on keyboards, and Ian Ritchie, Pink Floyd’s favourite saxophonist. Journalist, author and founder of *Mojo*, Paul Du Noyer said: "In the whole history of Liverpool music two bands matter most, one is The Beatles and the other is Deaf School.” The cult band enjoy a fanatically loyal following, especially for their sometimes anarchic, but always intriguing and intricate live shows.
