Texas duo ALIEN KNIFE FIGHT have announced the release of the first single from their new album.
Based in the tiny town of Creedmoor just south of Austin, AKF feature the talents of Monique Ortiz on vocals and two-string slide bass and Michael Howard on drums and percussion, who nail down their primal punk-blues gumbo on a 3.6 acre compound, Big Bottom Farm.
Working with producer and former MELVINS bassist Mark Deutrom - with whom Ortiz plays in the band BELLRINGER - AKF have been laying down tracks for their first full-length release, following on from their 2013 5-track debut EP.
The first single from the album, 'Some Girls', released today, is available to stream and download at their Bandcamp page.
Speaking exclusively to Vive Le Rock, Ortiz says: "So this song is one of those numbers that just kind of wrote itself. We have several like that. At all of our performances we have a set of material, but we also stray from it and do a lot of on-the-fly songwriting and improvisation. We were doing a gig in a tiny, smelly bar in Austin, playing to only a handful of people while a bunch of girls came in (obviously not there to see us), and I immediately tapped into my stream of consciousness. Luckily, I remembered it once we got home, and was able to record a demo of it in our studio the following day."
AKF are tentatively making plans for their first visit to the UK in 2017.
