CAPTAIN FUTURE, alias Alex McGowan from The Future Shape Of Sound and producer of The Urban Voodoo Machine, has a new video which he’s premiering exclusively with Vive Le Rock!

‘Zombie Lover’ is the second single to be taken from the Captain’s debut album Ghostman. It follows on from the debut single ‘Holy Waters’ which came out in January.

The album is the result of the enforced downtime brought about the Covid pandemic which brought a halt to the day-to-day proceedings at McGowan’s Space Eko East studio, allowing the multi-instrumentalist to progress in peaceful isolation on Ghostman.

As ‘Zombie Lover’ indicates, the album steers away from the rambunctious gypsy sounds of the UVM and the testifying soul of the TFSOS in favour of the downtempo dubby blues and trip-hop beats McGowan has honed down the years through his collaborations with the likes of Jah Wobble, Tricky and Martina Topley-bird.

Ghostman is out this Friday 9 July on Gypsy Hotel Records. Captain Future plays an album launch show with The Urban Voodoo Machine’s Paul-Ronney Angel at Elektrowerks, Islington, London on 15 July. Tickets are available here.

RICH RAGANY AND THE DIGRESSIONS have unveiled another new single from their new album.

‘Sometimes We Can Hear The Voices’ is taken from the band’s second album Beyond Nostalgia & Heartache which is out now and follows on from the band’s debut album Like We’ll Never Make It, released in 2019.

“This song is written from the perspective of someone who is leaving a home or situation in which they had suffered abuse,” explains Rich. “I wanted the mood to be very cinematic from the get-go and really uplifting and euphoric in the chorus, giving it the feel of freedom from that place. To show that, yes, even though those voices can still haunt you, you are free now.

“The title came from conversations about my experiences with all this and how I kinda find myself fighting those memories and [guitarist] Gaff said, ‘Yeah man… sometimes we can hear the voices…’ That conversation… the friendship and understanding in it, made me grab the guitar as soon as I could and write the song.”

The video for the single, which catches the band in thoroughly relaxed mode on a London rooftop, was directed, edited and shot by Craig Temple of Racketeer Pictures.

Beyond Nostalgia & Heartache is out now through Story Highway Records and is available here.

Brummie garage-psychers TABLE SCRAPS are back with a brand new video from their forthcoming new album.

The mindbendingly medievel ‘Threads’ is taken from the album Coffin Face, which follows on from the widely praised Autonomy, which came out in 2017.

Begun in 2018, the album comes at the end of a period that has seen the band play SXSW in Austin, Texas tour Europe alongside sludgerock heavyweights Monster Magnet and boost their celebrity fanbase to the tune of Idles and Amyl & The Sniffers.

Recorded entirely in the trio’s socially-distanced Digbeth bolthole, Coffin Face is set for release on 24 September but is available to pre-order here in a variety of bundles.
