Scandinavian action rockers THE DRIPPERS have unveiled a new single.

The Gothenburg trio are releasing their version of ‘Hammerless Nail’ by much-loved Columbus OH band NEW BOMB TURKS. As Viktor Skatt from the band says, “a monumental band that influenced the whole High Energy Rock ‘N’ Roll movement of the 90s and is one of the reasons why we started the band in the first place.”

It’s the band’s first release since their highly praised debut album Action Rock which came out through The Sign in 2019.

The track originally surfaced on the No Heroes, No Leaders, No Artists, No Gods: A Tribute to The New Bomb Turks – also featuring THE HELLACOPTERS, HIP PRIESTS and DEAD FURIES which came out through Spaghetty Town Records earlier this year.

You can stream/download ‘Hammerless Nail’ here.

And if that’s not enough NBT action for you, a second tribute album Defiled! A Heavy Medication Tribute to New Bomb Turks, featuring the likes of SMALLTOWN TIGERS, RANDY SAVAGES and HOWLIN’ THREADS is available here.

Hot new Essex rockers COBRA LUCHA are premiering their first video today exclusively with Vive Le Rock!

Fusing the tried and trusted influence of highly flammable Detroit street rock with traditional Essex loutishness combined with the pull of a 3-litre GXL Capri, ‘Hail Mary’ is the first taste of the band’s forthcoming 8-track album … Say No More.

Formed in 2019, the band was put together by former TELEPATHY bassist, and now frontman Teddy James Driscoll and guitarist and drummer Ollie and Stu Cooper of chart-troubling pop-punks KOOPA. The line-up is completed by guitarist Joe Pitcher and bassist Roberto AV.

‘Hail Mary’ – while in no way condoning Russian roulette! – is apparently inspired by Driscoll’s own experiences of “pubs, parties, street violence and casual hook-ups following a series of personal triumphs, tragedies and terrible hangovers”.

HAWKWIND have announced a first list of names for their Hawkfest. They’ve also announced a new album for release in September.

The veteran spacerockers will pitch their tipis near Axminster, Devon over the weekend of 27-29 August. They’ll be joined by THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN, HERE & NOW, SOFT MACHINE, THE MEMBRANES, TIM BLAKE, 3 DAFT MONKEYS, RDF, SON OF MAN, AOS3, CYBERNETIC WITCH CULT, SONIC TRIP PROJECT and more…

Further details and tickets can be found at

New album Somnia continues a particularly fruitful relationship with Cherry Red Records, following on from 2020’s Hawkwind Light Orchestra album Carnivorous and the live album 50th Anniversary Live.

As the name implies, Somnia takes the theme of sleep, drawing on mythology, fever dreams, strange encounters and sleepless paranoia for inspiration.

Set for release on 10 September, Somnia is available to pre-order here.

The band are also planning tour dates for September, followed by a date at London Palladium, rescheduled from earlier this year.

As previously announced, the band also headline the Big Top stage at this year’s Beautiful Days festival at Escot Park, Devon.

Fast-rising Cumbrian punks THE LIARS CLUB have just unveiled another new video from their forthcoming EP.

The psychobilly-charged ‘Tutankhamun’ is the second track to be taken from the Barrow-in-Furness quartet’s Of Self EP, following on from the recent ‘8 Tonne’ video.

“‘Tutankhamun’ is a brutal look at ruthless leaders on a broad spectrum,” state the band. “It takes ideologies and tyrannical occurrences to a face-value and over-exaggerated stand point, labelling them as they are and not what they seem to be. Stopping at nothing, the protagonist in the lyrics will do anything to make himself more powerful, ruling ‘I’ll kill your husband if it means that you’ll abide’. It’s a clear over-exaggeration, with a hint of an almost numbing feeling towards the consequences of his actions.”

Evidently at their best live, the band have chosen to accompany the track with gig footage shot at a recent hometown gig…

“The video is compiled from footage of our last hometown gig at Barrow Underground Music Society (affectionately known as BUMS),” say the band. “All the footage was taken by a fan in the audience and edited by film maker Reco Real.”

The curious can judge for themselves at…

24.06.21 – Ulverston – The Sun, Basement
02.07.21 – Manchester – The Castle

Released through Neoprima, ‘Tutankhamun’ can be streamed/downloaded here.

Italian punk-blues one-woman-band ELLI DE MON heralds her new album with a video which she’s premiering exclusively with Vive Le Rock!

The brooding, slow-building ‘Blue Spirit Blues’ is her interpretation of a song by blues legend Bessie Smith and is taken from the album Countin’ The Blues.

Comprising songs from the repertoires of Smith, Ma Rainey, Memphis Minnie, Elizabeth Cotten and others, the album can be seen as a soundtrack to Elli’s book Countin’ The Blues – Indomitable Women, a celebration of the blues queens of the 20s, published last year.

Speaking about the song, Elli says, “Sometimes you forget about them. They live hidden in dark places and they move very silently. But you can feel them and you can’t escape… and they get to hurt you so deeply. The BLUE DEVILS. Well, you can recognize them and this is the first step to get free. Bessie Smith knew it and she burnt her demons out. This is her song and I tried to make it mine.”

Hailing from the historic city of Vicenza and firmly established on the European garage-blues scene, Elli has shared stages with the likes of The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Cedric Burnside and Voodoo Rhythm Records boss, The Reverend Beat-Man. Releasing albums since 2014, her last album was a split release with brilliantly-named psych-blues exponents Daily Thompson.

Recorded live at Sonika in Ferrara, the video was shot by noted filmmaker Ares Brunelli.

Set for release on 18 June through Area Pirata Records, Countin’ The Blues is available to pre-order here.

Fast-rising Cardiff rockers JAMES AND THE COLD GUN today release a brand new single.

Coming on like the bastard sons of Mudhoney and Thin Lizzy, ‘Plug Me In’, follows belligerently on from their well-received previous single ‘Long Way Home’. The single’s out through GALLOWS’ label, Venn Records.

“’Plug Me In’ is a love letter to volume, it’s for the times where you feel completely lost and rely on music to make you ‘feel something,” says guitarist James Joseph, who’s joined in the band by fellow guitarist/singer James Biss. “The past year has been difficult for us all and I think nearly everyone can relate to feelings of helplessness or feeling like ‘groundhog day’—getting into a garage and turning our amps up as loud as possible has been such a cathartic release for us.”

The single was produced by Adrian Bushby whose credits include Cheap & Nasty, The Parkinsons and, weirdly, The Spice Girls.

Stream/download ‘Plug Me In’ here.

BILLY F GIBBONS has unveiled another video from his forthcoming new album.

As previously announced, the ZZ TOP sixstringer recorded Hardware in California’s high desert with a band including Cult and Guns N’Roses drummer Matt Sorum.

The video for ‘My Lukcy Card’ was shot at Pappy & Harriet’s legendary Pioneertown Palace near Joshua Tree, initially built in 1946 as part of a set for cowboy film and TV stars Roy Rogers and Gene Autrey. The video also features a guest appearance by high desert punk rock glamour icon Jesika Von Rabbit.

“We thought Pappy’s would be a great place for us to do the video since it reflects the rough and tumble high desert vibe that was the inspiration for the album,” explains Gibbons. “I play a slide guitar in this one but neglected to bring a proper slide along for the shoot. Necessity being a mother, we improvised and used a beer bottle. We went through a case or more looking for just the right bottle neck and, at last, found one on a classic Mexican brew. That was some thirst-quenching research to be sure.”

Set for release on 4 June through Concord Records, Hardware is available to pre-order here.

The UNDERCOVER FESTIVAL, the festival that refuses to die, is back with its ninth edition this Autumn.

One of the UK punk community’s favourite small festivals, Undercover has popped up all over the south of England over the past decade, even reaching as far as London.

Last year’s event, which just managed to sneak in prior to the lockdown in March, was planned to be the last but with boredom and frustration at the lack of live music kicking in, they’ve decided to do it again.

This year’s Undercover will take place at Suburbs, The Holroyd, Guildford over the weekend of 15-17 October.

“We were finally going to call it a day after the successful Undercover 8 in March 2020” says founder Mick Moriarty. “But the boredom of the first lockdown made me rather restless, then we had Rich Steward, Keith, Gerry, Pete and some regulars nagging me relentlessly to look at doing Undercover again; we set up a team who got the crowdfunder campaign going to ensure Undercover 9 went ahead, which had great support from some lovely Undercover People and regulars plus, in the middle of the campaign, Hillsy from Suburbs The Holroyd in Guildford made us an offer we could not refuse, so Undercover Festival NINE is back, plus we have moved up a notch with organising shedloads of Undercover Events gigs before and after October including Undercover TEN in early April 2022.”

As well as the festival, Moriarty has also announced various punk gigs throughout the summer and beyond, including KING KURT, GRADE 2, KIRK BRANDON, ABDOUJAPAROV, THE ACTIVATORS, WITCHDOKTORS and more. Full details and tickets for all shows can be found here.

Punk guitarslinger JAMES STEVENSON is back with a brand new solo album.

A ubiquitous presence on the UK punk and post-punk scene for 45 years, beginning with CHELSEA, Stevenson has trod the boards with the likes of GEN X, THE CULT, HOT CLUB, KIM WILDE, THE INTERNATIONAL SWINGERS, GLEN MATLOCK, HOLY HOLY and THE ALARM. He’s also been a member of GENE LOVES JEZEBEL since 1985.

The Other Side Of The World follows on from his 2017 solo debut Everything’s Getting Closer To Being Over.

The album was recorded remotely, with Stevenson laying down guitar, bass and vocals in his own studio before sending it to Alarm drummer Smiley to add his parts. Guest musicians include Stevenson’s schoolfriend and former Chelsea colleague Henry Badowski, Elizabeth Westwood from WESTWORLD, Terry Edwards from THE NJE and The Alarm’s Mike Peters. The album was mixed by Peter Walsh (Simple Minds, The Church, Scott Walker).

The title track of the album reflects on the loss his brother to Pick’s Disease. “Not many people have heard of the disease – it’s a really nasty one,” says Stevenson. “The first lockdown was hard for us all but losing my brother in the middle of it truly broke my heart The other side of the world is a reference to him living in Australia and also, because it’s a neurological brain disorder, that he was on the other side of the world mentally.”

The album also features ‘Point It To Your Head’, a track by departed RICH KIDS’ guitarist Steve New. “I loved Steve,” says Stevenson. “‘Point It To Your Head’ was a song he wrote that I always loved but it was never released – so I recorded a version of it as a tribute to Steve”.

Set for release on Pink Gun Records on 9 July, The Other Side Of The World is available to pre-order here.

Swedish glamsters VELVET INSANE have just unveiled a new single and video.

The hand-clapping piano-pounding ‘Backstreet Liberace’ is taken from the trio’s new album Rock’n’Roll Glitter Suit and features guest appearances from Scandirock legends Dregen and Nicke Andersson from HELLACOPTERS.

On top of that, the track was written by Sulo Karlsson of DIAMOND DOGS who wrote and produced the album with the band.

“We feel very proud about this song and that it breathes and swaggers like it was made in London 1973, but with the modern sound of today,” swoon the Velvets. “Smooth pop harmonies pumped up by heavy drums and barbed wire guitars, and with a chorus that hits you right where it hurts. On top of it all we got Dregen and Nicke Andersson from The Hellacopters to jump in the back seat, giving us a helping hand in our purpose to keep rock ’n‘ roll alive. It can’t get any better than that!”

Set for release through Wild Kingdom Records on 16 July, Rock’n’Roll Glitter Suit is available to pre-order here.

As reported on social media, this year’s REBELLION festival will not now be going ahead. The organisers are assuring fans, however, that the festival will be back better than ever next year. Tickets for 2020 and 2021 will be valid for that event.

This time last year the organisers of Rebellion, the world’s largest punk festival, were forced to make the heart-breaking decision to cancel the four-day event due to the global pandemic. A year on and the dedicated Rebellion team are absolutely devastated to confirm that yet again, the hugely-anticipated event, due to take place this coming August 6th – 9th with legendary artists such as Circle Jerks, Bad Religion, The Undertones, Tom Robinson and Stiff Little Fingers, at The Winter Gardens in Blackpool, is no longer able to go ahead.

Despite the intention, desire and willingness of Rebellion, the venue, the bands and the local businesses for this year to go ahead, it has become increasingly clear that due to circumstances beyond the festival’s control, it can’t. With no clear guidelines from the government in terms of insurance, guarantees, policies on re-entry, testing and potential vaccine passports, the festival simply can’t go ahead.

Rebellion has been open and transparent throughout this pandemic and were hopeful (but cautious) about this year but required a few essential things to be confirmed for the event to go head. The feeling is that music festivals are being ‘timed out’. No one is saying they CAN’T go ahead, but nothing is in place yet that means they CAN either. That is why the last few weeks have seen many independent festivals take the tough decision to cancel.

All of this, combined with the ongoing global travel restrictions means that Rebellion would not be able to put on the event that they desire, and their audience expects. The Rebellion family is global. Around a third of the people that attend are from overseas and with no touring bands (many agents and bands from overseas have pulled their European tours and rescheduled them for 2022), it would simply not be the festival that Rebellion wanted to stage.

But there is some good news. Rebellion 2021 has been moved to 2022. Both 2020 and 2021 tickets will roll over to 2022. For those of you wanting a refund, visit the website where full details are published. All day tickets will be refunded automatically.

REBELLION 2022 is 4th – 7th August. So put that in your diary! Some surprise headliners have already been confirmed, plus many reconfirmed that were due to play this year. And don’t get rid of your hotel or B&B bookings for this year just yet as there is still hope that some kind of scaled back event this year is possible. Watch this space.

Tickets for 2022 will go on sale on Monday August 9th.

The RETURN OF REBELLION 2022 is going to be massive! The exciting news is the council have agreed for the festival to have the area of the promenade right in front of Blackpool Tower (Tower Headland, on the ‘comedy carpet’). This is an amazing space for an outdoor stage. A straight walk down from the Winter Gardens. Rebellion can double the capacity with this area and have some fantastic plans to make both sites amazing.
To better times. And a colossal Rebellion 2022!
