Seminal Aussie punks THE VICTIMS have been prompted by the death of Charles Manson to unveil what they’ve been working on.

The Perth band originally formed in 1977, releasing the classic single ‘Television Addict’ before splitting. Singer and guitarist Dave Faulkner and drummer James Baker later teamed up in the first line-up of the HOODOO GURUS.

Faulkner and Baker returned in 2014 to play Victims material, with THE HARD-ONS’ Ray Ahn joining them on bass. The trio have recently been revisiting old Victims material for later release. The song ‘Charlie’ was originally written as a put-down of Manson and the hero-worship surrounding him after the pair watched the film Helter Skelter.

Faulkner revealed in a Facebook post, “We decided to make ‘Charlie’ available for free now (on YouTube) because Manson died the day before we mixed it and it seemed like a good idea to give him a kick in the pants as he made his long-overdue exit. See ya, sucker!”

Long lost Brit power-poppers THE FAVOURITES have just released a brilliant new retrospective anthology, and we have five copies to give away!

They’re also launching a video for the track ‘Favourite Shoes’ exclusively with Vive Le Rock!

‘Favourite Shoes’ was originally released on the B-side of the Nottingham band’s debut single, a punked-up cover of ABBA’s ‘SOS’. With no existing TV or video footage available, the video was created by Martin James Gee with prompts from band members Darryl Hunt and Duncan Kerr.

The Favourites were formed in 1977 by members of Stiff-signed pub rockers PLUMMET AIRLINES and THE GTs, whose sole recorded appearance was on the fabled Raw Records compilation, Raw Deal. Earning support slots with the likes of THE ONLY ONES and SQUEEZE, they released one further single – a cover of THE WASPS’ ‘Angelica’ – before splitting.

The album New Feeling, which was released in September through Reckless Records and received a glowing review in the latest edition of Vive Le Rock, features both singles plus B-sides and 10 other recently unearthed recordings, digitally remastered by Sean Read from DEXYS.

And we have 5 copies of New Feeling to give away!!!  Each LP contains a CD of the album, but there’s more! One lucky winner will also receive a mint unplayed copy of the now rare and valuable original ‘Angelica’ single!!!

To be in with a chance of winning, just send an email to with ‘FAVOURITES COMP’ in the subject box by Wednesday 29 November, telling us the answer to this simple question:

Favourites frontman Darryl Hunt went on to play bass in which major band?  Good luck!

New Feeling is available to buy online here, or directly from Reckless Records, 30 Berwick Street, London.

Sometime DAMNED rhythm section Rat Scabies and Paul Gray have reunited on the new album by PROFESSOR AND THE MADMAN.

The L.A. based act is built around singers, guitarists and songwriters Alfie Agnew and Sean Elliott, both from punk band D.I.

Apparently, Alfie and Sean were playing a Xmas gig, at which Scabies just happened to be in attendance, and the pair coaxed him onstage to join them on a cover of The Damned’s ‘Smash It Up’. They later roped him into recording a version of the track with them at Agnew’s home studio. Eventually he agreed to play on their first two digital albums Elixir I: Good Evening, Sir!  and Elixir II: Election, both released last year.

Gray, who’d previously been in EDDIE & THE HOT RODS before joining The Damned for The Black Album and Strawberries, was contacted by Scabies through Facebook, and although they hadn’t communicated since a run of Damned runion shows in the early 90s, he agreed to join the project.

The album, Disintegrate Me, was co-produced by the band with English producer David M Allen, who worked on the notorious Damned album Not Of This Earth, as well as releases by THE CURE and SISTERS OF MERCY. It’s scheduled for release on 23 February through FullerTone Records.

Check out ‘Electroconvulsive Therapy’.

With Scabies and Gray based in the UK, Professor And The Madman have recruited a local rhythm section for US dates. It’s hoped that the pair will join the band for shows on this side of the pond.

As previously announced, Gray has rejoined The Damned for a forthcoming new album being recorded with Tony Visconti.

Original ’77 punks turned psych explorers, THE TELEVISION PERSONALITIES are to see a long-lost album finally released in the New Year.

Formed around mercurial frontman Dan Treacy, the band achieved a certain notoriety with now-classic songs like ‘Where’s Bill Grundy Now?’ and ‘Part-Time Punks’ before helping to spawn the early-80s psych revival with the album …And Don’t The Kids Just Love It.

The 15 previously unreleased tracks on Beautiful Despair was recorded during 1990 by Treacy and longtime Personality and former SWELL MAP Jowe Head at the latter’s flat in Stoke Newington, North London over a number of sessions to a 4-track portastudio.

Check out ‘If You Fly Too High’.

“‘If You Fly Too High’ was based on an encounter with Evan Dando of The Lemonheads in Berlin,” explains Head. “We did a memorable gig with them at the Ecstasy Madhouse in December 1989, when the Berlin Wall was being torn down. Exciting times. We jammed with Evan on stage that night, playing some tunes by Jonathan Richman and Johnny Thunders, as I recall. That song also mentions Alan McGee, who was a great fan of the TVPS and Dan’s songs. Alan openly admits that he emulated Dan’s style of music, and influenced his decision to run a mod-psychedelic club, The Living Room, and to start his label, Creation.”

Set for release on 26 January through Fire Records, Beautiful Despair is available to pre-order on limited edition black-and-white splatter vinyl, regular vinyl, CD and download here.

Riverside CA’s garage tornadoes THE BELLRAYS return with a new album and tour in the New Year.

Their first full new album since the release of Black Lightning in 2010, Punk Funk Rock Soul Volume 2 follows the release of Volume One, the four-track taster EP released earlier this year as an appetiser for the main feast. And we’re premiering the track ‘I Can’t Hide’.

First coming together back in 1990 and fronted by the indomitable Lisa Kekaula alongside founding guitarist Robert Vennum, The Bellrays’ high energy rock’n’soul shows quickly earned them comments like “The Stooges meet Aretha Franklin” and ” Tina Turner and the MC5″, an a reputation that has taken them right round the world.

“We take our ear where our heart lives in simple song writing, making ourselves and hopefully all who hear it feel good,” explains Lisa. “We are proud of its simplicity and love how the new songs sound like old friends. This release is a collection of songs that illustrates why we do what we do. We are not 20 year olds and that’s okay. We are proud of our mileage and journey and PUNK FUNK ROCK SOUL validates our comfort in what music means to us. Viability, trend and meaning are up to the eye of the beholder…we like to rock.”

The Bell Rays LISA AND BOB

Speaking of the track ‘I Can’t Hide’, she says, “Bob wrote it about us and what means to be in a relationship. He said you realize that somebody actually loves you. Not taking the magnitude of what that means for granted.”

Dark London garage rockers THEE UNHOLY INNOCENTS have just released their debut single.

‘White Jesus’ is taken from the band’s debut album Shadows Drag, which is due for release in 2018.

The brainchild of Scottish songwriter Neil Robertson, it also features SIGUE SIGUE SPUTNIKguitarist Neal X, bassist Gavin Jay from JIM JONES & THE RIGHTEOUS MIND and drummer John Russell. It was produced by Alex MacGowan of THE FUTURE SHAPE OF SOUND at his Space Eko Studio.

Says Robertson, “‘White Jesus’ was written years ago when Bush was in power but it does seem particularly appropriate for today. People tend to recoil at the title, fearing some kind of racism or prescriptive anti-religion sentiment but that’s bollocks. I’m interested in the individual and inclusiveness and what it means to be a human being, trying to make sense of the misery and hoping for something beautiful beyond the mundane.”

The band promise gigs in the new year in unusual intimate venues.

‘White Jesus’ is available to download now from iTunes, AmazonSpotify and usual platforms.

A revamped Rose Tattoo are currently playing Australian dates, with former AC/DC bassist Mark Evans, ex-ANGELS guitarist Bob Spencer and sometime AUSTRALIAN CRAWL drummer John Watson joining Anderson and longtime slide guitarist Dai Pritchard. Shows in Europe and the UK are mooted for 2018.
