Swedish garage rockers NIGHTMEN return with a new album in April.

The prophetically-titled Can’t Avoid Success follows relatively hot on the heels of their debut Fifteen Minutes Of Pain, which was released a year ago.

Formed in Malmö in 2014, Nightmen bring together members from the likes of TERRIBLE FEELINGS, YAST and MF/MB/, creating a blend of garage rock and powerpop, citing such influences as RAMONES and DEAD MOON.

They released their debut EP Girl For You through Rundgång Rekords in early 2015, signing to Lövely Records for their debut LP a year later.

Can’t Avoid Success is released on 14 April through Lövely Records. It’s available to pre-order on CD from Freight Train and digitally from iTunes.

Check out the video for the single ‘Ahahahah (Oh No)’.

Legendary North London R&B band THE INMATES are to have their first three albums reissued as a box set.

First Offence, Shot In The Dark and Heatwave In Alaska were originally issued through Radar/WEA from 1979 to 1982.

Islington’s answer to DR FEELGOOD, The Inmates were formed by members of THE FLYING TIGERS and THE CANNIBALS and featured the impressive talents of powerful and charismatic frontman Bill Hurley, guitarists Peter Gunn and Tony Oliver, bassist Ben Donnelly and, at different times, drummers Jim Russell and Eddie from THE VIBRATORS.

The band’s first single was a cover of THE STANDELLS’ ‘Dirty Water’, which just scraped the US Top 50, while second single, a version of JIMMY McCRACKLIN’S ‘The Walk’ was a ubiquitous radio hit, making the the UK Top 40. The Vic Maile-produced First Offence made the US Top 40 albums chart.

After Heatwave In Alaska, Hurley handed the mic to Barrie Masters from EDDIE & THE HOT RODS, before returning to the band in 1987.

Along with the three albums, the 3-CD set features 8 bonus tracks and a 20-page booklet.

The Albums 1979-82 is released on 26 May through Cherry Red. It’s available to pre-order here.

Max’s Kansas City 1976 – the compilation spawned by the legendary New York City nightclub – is getting an expanded reissue.

Situated at 213 Park Avenue South, Max’s first opened in the mid-60s as a haven for artists, poets and musicians, including Andy Warhol, William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed – it was also the location for the recording of the Velvet Underground’s classic 1972 live album, Live At Max’s Kansas City.

Closing in 1974, it reopened a year later, becoming as integral to the birth of New York punk as CBGB’s, with show’s from the likes of Wayne County, New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders, Patti Smith, Ramones, Television, The Fast, The Dictators, Blondie and many more.

Max’s Kansas City 1976 was compiled as a 10-track album by music director Peter Crowley to help promote the club. Now the original album is expanded to 40 tracks across two CDs, with a selection of 25 on the double-vinyl edition. Including many unreleased and rare tracks, it was once again compiled by Crowley, who also adds sleevenotes detailing the album’s history. Further notes and artist biogs by writer, musician and Max’s regular Jimi LaLumia complete a 20-page booklet.

‘Midnight Oil’ is inspired by John Schlesinger’s classic 1969 film Midnight Cowboy while ‘Drunk No More’ takes its lead from Carol Batton, Poet Laureate for Mental Health Survivors. “’Drunk No More’ is the thirteenth step of a twelve-step programme – one foot into the abyss,” says lyricist Nathan Mcilroy. “When you get to the bottom but before you’re physically and mentally capable of going back to the top of the slide.”

Due for release on 7″ vinyl through Concrete Records on Friday 21 April, the single is available to pre-order here.

Guitar legend BERNIE TORMÉ releases his new triple album next month and hits the road to coincide.

Dublin Cowboy is the result of a phenomenally successful PledgeMusic campaign that hit its original target in under nine hours.

Comprising 29 tracks in total, the album features a disc each of brand new electric and acoustic material, while a third disc adds a live recording from South Shields in January 2016, featuring classic tracks from Tormé’s 40-year career.

“I always wanted to do a triple album and also an acoustic album,” he says. “And combining the two seemed like the obvious idea, though truth is it nearly killed me: I’m still in recovery! But on top of all that, and with two albums of screaming wails and dive-bombs, I am totally knocked out with how the shred-free acoustic album has been received! Fans who pledged and have heard it absolutely LOVE it! Quadruple album next time? Nah, I really don’t think so!”

Dublin Cowboy is released on CD, vinyl and download through Retrowrek Records on Friday 7 April, and is available to pre-order here.

BERMONDSEY JOYRIDERS mainman GARY LAMMIN has announced a pair of instore dates in support of his recently released debut solo album.

A veteran of the London punk scene, Lammin recorded Gary Guitar Lammin with legendary SEX PISTOLS producer Dave Goodman, but the recordings were shelved following Goodman’s death in 2005.

Lammin will be performing in solo acoustic mode at….

25 March – Raven Records,74 Bromley Road, Beckenham – 4pm

1 April – All Ages Records, 27 Pratt Street, Camden – 4pm

Both dates have some personal significance to Lammin, and to his close working relationship with Goodman. Raven Records is “literally a few streets down” from Goodman’s former Mandala Studios, where the bulk of the recording was completed more than a decade ago. Meanwhile, Lammin says of his appearance at All Ages in Camden, “I particularly wanted a gig for the album on April Fool’s day, as it was a day that me and Dave Goodman spoke about a bit”. He explains that the figure of the fool was often in their minds as these philosophical, dramatic, and dream-like songs took shape; “we both found it interesting that in a lot of Shakespearian plays, it is the court jester or the fool (who often is only pretending to be a fool), is the only person who is actually is privy to all information – because nobody takes him seriously”.

Gary Guitar Lammin is available here.

Walthamstow band SISTERAY are set to release a new EP next month and they’re premiering the lead track exclusively with Vive Le Rock!

‘Queen’s English’ is the opening cut from 15 Minutes, a title inspired by Andy Warhol’s famous quote about fame.

Since then they’ve been playing up and down the country, performing guerrilla gigs and organising their own club nights,  as well as appearing at Camden Rocks, Isle of Wight and Leeds festivals.

The EP was recorded at East London’s Lightship 95 studio with producer Rory Attwell of TEST ICICLES and VACCINES fame.

Guitarist Dan Connolly says, “Now more than ever, people seem to be given 15 minutes and 15 minutes only. It’s not an album and it’s not a single. It’s simply a statement about the times we are living in.”
