Rising country and rockabilly star LIL’ LOST LOU unveils a video for her new single this week.
The voodoo-gothic ‘He Put A Hook In Me’ is taken from her self-titled debut album, which is out on Friday 7 April through Bully Records.
A regular on the London pub and club circuit for a few years, Lou has shared stages with the likes of Wanda Jackson, Billy Childish, Wilko Johnson, The Urban Voodoo Machine and more. She travelled to Nashville to record the album at the analogue Welcome To 1979 Studios with noted producer Billy Livsey and a host of Music City session men, who between them have worked with the likes of Johnny Cash, Chet Atkins, Glen Campbell, The Pretenders and many others.
“Well in case you haven’t noticed, this song is a bit of a tribute to Warren Zevon,” explains Lou. “There is an undeniably obvious werewolf howl in it, but there is also a stolen lyric from his song too… see if you can find it! I love Warren Zevon, he’s such a great lyricist and I like to give credit to the people who have inspired my own writing. I’ve also been a fan of tongue twisters when I was a kid … I thought it was cool to write something that is like a chant… ‘Bones, feathers, black book, rabbit foot…’ It’s the ingredients of a magic spell… Like Johnny Kidd and the Pirates’ ‘Casting My Spell.’ I shamelessly stole the idea… But they do say that good artists borrow, great artists steal!”
Lil’ Lost Lou will be launching the album with a special show on the album’s release date at Underbelly, Hoxton Square, London N1.
Lil’ Lost Lou is available to pre-order now on vinyl with free CD and download code from her website and also includes admission to the album launch.

South London garage types THE SLY PERSUADERS have their long-awaited debut album out this week, and they’re unveiling the lead-off video exclusively with Vive Le Rock!
‘Watch & Learn’ is taken from the self-titled album, which is released through Roadkill Records on Friday 24 February.
Forging a strong following on the London circuit, the band drew on the dark psychotic rockabilly forces of the likes of The Cramps, The Gun Club and The Bad Seeds for the album, which was recorded at the Music Complex in Deptford.
The video is the work of filmmaker Stacy Picard of Massive Capital Video, who says, “The Sly Persuaders are a master class in controlled chaos, always teetering on the verge of total collapse so I set out to make a video that looks like they sound, bad acid. The shoot itself was a truly alcoholic affair and I could have cut an entire second video comprised of Chris ‘fixing’ his hair, there was enough footage. Good lads, bad habits. The real challenge was making them look charismatic and attractive thus all the special effects.
“On a more technical note, I got the members of the band to do the same performance a couple of times and layered themselves over themselves to create that ‘trippy’ effect, as they were quite pissed, each performance was rather different from the last. I then sat up late night after night smoking pot and messing with the layers, when I found myself saying ‘whoa’ I would add that bit to the video time line and reward myself with a cookie, that’s how the magic happens, folks.”
The Sly Persuaders will launch the album on Friday 24 February at a special Roadkill/Some Weird Sin night at Nambucca in Holloway, in the company of SAINT AGNES and BRIDPORT DAGGER. Tickets are available here, but they’re going fast!
The Sly Persuaders is available to pre-order on vinyl and download here.
