It’s been revealed that IGGY POP and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and EAGLES OF DEATH METAL mainman Josh Homme have been collaborating on a new album.

Announced unexpectedly during an appearance on TVs The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Post Pop Depression was recorded in seclusion with a line-up assembled by Homme featuring his QOTSA bandmate and DEAD WEATHER guitarist Dean Fertita and ARCTIC MONKEYS drummer Matt Helders.

“I wanted to be free,” says Iggy. “To be free, I needed to forget. To forget, I needed music. Josh had that in him, so I set out to provoke an encounter-first with a carefully worded text, followed by a deluge of writings all about me. No composer wants to write about nothing. He got revved up and we had a great big rumble in the desert USA.”

“This was to go where neither of us had gone before,” adds Homme. “That was the agreement. And to go all the way.”

Post Pop Depression is released on 18 March on Rekords Rekords through Caroline International. It’s available to pre-order as a download now on iTunes, with the single ‘Gardenia’ available immediately, or on vinyl and CD from Iggy’s webstore.

THE MISSION have announced details of their 30th Anniversary Tour of the U.K. and Ireland this Autumn.

Celebrating three decades since the SISTERS OF MERCY escapees debuted at London’s psych haven Alice In Wonderland, the tour takes in seven cities, kicking off in Dublin on 1 October and culminating at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire on 8 October. A month later, the band head up to Yorkshire for the Whitby Goth Weekend on 5 November.  Wayne Hussey also plays solo at Whitby’s Spring event on 23 April.

“30 bloody years! Who would’ve thought it, eh?” asks Wayne Hussey. “As we were well renowned for our, ahem, lifestyle choices, shall we say, I remember Melody Maker ran an office pool betting which member of The Mission would die first. I seem to remember Mick was the favourite with yours truly running a close 2nd. Well, we’re still here, alive and well and still going strong. It seems to me that anyone who survives past the age of 50 in this business these days is given honorary legendary status. It’s cheaply given, in my opinion, but we’ll take it. I seriously never thought I’d see this day but 30 years is a remarkable achievement. Not one we could have achieved without the support and patronage of our brilliant audience. This celebration is for YOU as much as it is for our retirement funds.”

Since Hussey and Craig Adams walked out on the Sisters’ Andrew Eldtritch, hooking up with ARTERY’s Simon Hinkler and Mick Brown from RED LORRY YELLOW LORRY, The Mission have generated a huge and loyal international fanbase, and several missions of album sales. Enduring various line-up changes, they split in 2008, Hussey, Adams and Hinkler reconvened in 2011, with new drummer Mike Kelly. The band are now planning a follow-up to 2013’s The Brightest Light.

Full tour dates are as follows….

Sat 1 Oct – Dublin, O2 Academy
Sun 2 Oct – Belfast, Limelight
Mon 3 Oct – Glasgow, O2 ABC
Wed 5 Oct – Manchester, O2 Ritz
Thu 6 Oct – Nottingham, Rock City
Fri 7 Oct – Bristol, O2 Academy
Sat 8 Oct – London, O2 Shepherds Bush Empire

Sat 5 Oct – Whitby Goth Weekend

Tickets, including VIP packages, go on pre-sale on Friday 22 January with general sales beginning on Monday 25 January. Go here for details.

Eighties new wavers MODERN ENGLISH are set to return with a brand new album this Spring.

The ‘I Melt With You’ hitmakers also have an extensive U.S. tour booked with U.K. and European dates in the pipeline.

The as yet untitled album features original members Robbie Grey, Gary McDowell, Stephen Walker and Michael Conroy and is the first Modern English album to feature this line-up in more than thirty years. Recorded in a soundproof bunker at U.F.O. hotspot Rendlesham airbase in Suffolk, it was produced and mixed by Martyn Young of COLOURBOX. Set for a late-March release, it’s available to pre-order through PledgeMusic.

Originally formed in Colchester, Essex in 1979, Modern English debuted with the classic ‘Drowning Man’ single before signing to 4AD. Second album After The Snow and single ‘I Melt With You’ in 1982 brought college radio and MTV-assisted Stateside success, while in the UK, Grey, McDowell and Conroy collaborated on 4AD’s THIS MORTAL COIL project.

Although the band splintered mid-decade, they’ve reconfigured on a number of occasions, reuniting in 2010 with the original line-up minus drummer Richard Brown. In 2011, they re-recorded ‘I Melt With You’ for the movie of the same name.

Full tour dates can be found here.

Long-serving Finnish goth-punks THE 69 EYES have unveiled a brand new video for the first single from their new album.

‘Jet Fighter Plane’ is taken from their eleventh album Universal Monsters. It’s out on 22 April through Nuclear Blast, but it’s available to pre-order here.

Directed by band photographer Ville Juurikkala , frontman Jyrki 69 says of the video and single: “As I first heard the instrumental demo of the song, it immediately sounded for me like a song from the early 80’s new wave/post punk days. You know, like when the music was heavily inspired by David Bowie’s dark visions, the Cold War, the threat of nuclear war and 1984-kind of the future. So I wrote such lyrics from the past – and all of a sudden, the history started to repeat itself and the Cold War winds started to blow again. It was very strange – all of a sudden THE 69 EYES have a song which is very ‘today’ and even slightly political, longing back the days of peace. We also wanted the video to be artistic and visually capturing the vibe and theme of the song. There is hope but also darkness, violence and innocence. But it’s only goth ‘n’ roll and I like it!
