‘Looking For Johnny : The Legend Of Johnny Thunders’ will be on the big screen at the Hackney Picturehouse tomorrow night, as part of the venue’s music documentary season, ‘Doc ‘n’ Roll Fest’. The full festival schedule can be found here http://www.docnrollfestival.com/schedule.html.
Directed by Danny Garcia (‘The Rise and Fall of The Clash’), ‘Looking For Johnny’ is the definitive documentary on the life of legendary New York Dolls and Heartbreakers guitarist, Johnny Thunders. In 90 minutes the film covers Thunders’ career, from his beginning in 70s New York, to his demise in New Orleans, where he died under mysterious circumstances in 1991.
The screening starts at 9pm, and will be followed by a live QnA with Danny Garcia and Thunders biographer Nina Antonia.
NEW AC DC ALBUM!
AC/DC ‘ROCK OR BUST’ AVAILABLE DECEMBER 1
TURNER SPORTS TO PREMIERE NEW TRACK
‘PLAY BALL’ AS PART OF 2014 MLB ON TBS POSTSEASON CAMPAIGN
Columbia Records proudly announces the release of ‘Rock or Bust,’ the highly anticipated new studio album from AC/DC, available December 1, 2014. ‘Rock or Bust’ is the band’s first studio album in six years and features 11 new tracks. ‘Rock or Bust’ follows the immensely successful ‘Black Ice’ album, which debuted at #1 in 31 countries upon its release in 2008 and has gone on to sell nearly 8 million copies worldwide. ‘Rock or Bust’ was recorded in Spring 2014 at Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, BC and finds AC/DC once again working with producer Brendan O’Brien and mixer Mike Fraser.
Starting September 27, Turner Sports will provide fans a sneak peek of the new track ‘Play Ball’ as part of the 2014 Major League Baseball Postseason campaign. The content will run for several weeks across TBS, the exclusive home to this year’s American League Postseason coverage, as well as leading media brands within the Turner portfolio.
“Rock or Bust” is the first AC/DC album in the band’s 41 year history without founding member Malcolm Young on the recordings. Earlier this year AC/DC released a statement explaining that due to illness, Malcolm would be taking a break from the band. Unfortunately, due to the nature of Malcolm’s condition, he will not be returning to the band. AC/DC will undertake a world tour in support of ‘Rock or Bust’ in 2015. Stevie Young, nephew of founding members Angus and Malcolm Young, plays rhythm guitar on ‘Rock or Bust’ and will accompany the band on tour.
JOHN LYDON
John Lydon visits hmv to celebrate the release of his new autobiography ‘Anger Is An Energy: My Life Uncensored”.
Where & When?
Fri 17th October – 1:00pm – hmv 363 Oxford Street, London
Sun 19th October – 2:00pm – hmv Reading
What?
National treasure John Lydon visits hmv to sign copies of his new autobiography ‘Anger is an energy: My Life Uncensored’. The London event will be strictly limited to 300 fans who gain access by obtaining a wristband with purchase of the book from 9th October.
Always outspoken, controversial and sincere, John Lydon, formerly Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols and then lead singer of Public Image Ltd (PiL), looks back on his extraordinary life in a memoir that will be full of surprises, humour and emotion. ‘Anger Is An Energy’ will be a fresh and mature look back on a life full of incident from his beginnings as a sickly child of immigrant Irish parents who grew up in post-war London, to his present status as a vibrant, alternative national hero. John writes “this book is about the life of a risk taker. I make things safe for other people to follow in my wake.”
An enduring icon in the British musical landscape across four decades, John has released an array of eclectic records. As the notorious Sex Pistols’ frontman he spearheaded a countercultural movement of young people from around the world, who were clamouring for change – and found it in the style and attitude of this most unlikely figurehead. His controversial image, songwriting and performance style combined with a razor sharp wit and frank social commentary incited discussion about John in the Houses of Parliament under the Traitors and Treasons Act, which still carries the death penalty. Following the Sex Pistols, John reinvented himself as the founder of experimental outfit PiL, setting in place a blueprint for a band that continues to challenge and thrive in the 2010s. Not content with leading two of the most iconic British bands, John has also collaborated with the likes of Africa Baambaata and Leftfield on innovative dance tracks.
