NEW MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES ALBUM

THE MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM The Magic of Youth; New studio album in stores December 6th on Rude Records If you haven’t realized it yet, there are truly only three constants in any ska-punker’s life: death, taxes and the Mighty Mighty BossToneS. The Boston-bred skacore octet have been in business for nearly 25 years—but just because they’re eligible for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame doesn’t mean they have nothing left to say. “If the question is why at this point in time, in 2011, do we need a Mighty Mighty BossToneS record, then the same question should be asked: Why do we need good music?” says frontman Dicky Barrett. “We make really good records, and this one that we are currently making is no exception—it’s damn good. On top of that making damn good music with each other is something we love doing” The Magic of Youth is an eleven song album that has everything a BossToneS fan could ever want. Ripping sing along choruses, classic ska core beats, vibrant horn lines and of course the raspy heartfelt voice and lyrics of Dicky Barrett. The writing of the album started shortly after the release of Pin Points and Gin Joints in 2009 and will also be released on the bands own Big Rig Records. Produced by Ted Hutt (the Gaslight Anthem, Dropkick Murphys), The Magic of Youth arrives just in time for the band’s annual Hometown Throwdown which will take place Dec 28-30 at the House of Blues in Boston. The BossToneS recently played two sold out nights at Boston’s Fenway Park with Dropkick Murphys and did a string of shows in Europe including the Reading and Leeds festivals.

Ant returns!

Adam Ant, the original Prince of new pop and iconic British musician, kicks off a UK winter tour on 11th November at Bristol’s O2 Academy.  This tour follows Ant’s triumphant return to live performing earlier this year, after a 15 year hiatus.

In a career spanning more than 35 years Adam Ant has had ten top 10 singles with his band Adam and the Ants and also as a solo artist.

In 1981 Adam and the Ants turned pop music on its head.  As well as reaching the number 1 spot with the singles ‘Stand And Deliver’ & ‘Prince Charming’, the songs became the number 1 and number 2 best-selling songs of the entire year.

Adam and the Ants disbanded at the end of 1981 but Adam also hit the number 1 spot in 1982 with his first solo single ‘Goody Two Shoes’.

With hundreds of shows performed in the UK since 1977, Adam has also toured extensively throughout the United States, mainland Europe, Australia and Japan.

Throughout the 80s and 90s Adam took up acting on the stage (Entertaining Mr Sloane & Greek), TV (The Equalizer, Tales from the Crypt& Northern Exposure) and also film (Love Bites, Slam Dance & Nomads) whilst still writing and producing music.

With 8 albums behind him Adam has completed two successful UK tours since playing at Under the Bridge, the purpose-built music venue at Chelsea football ground, in March 2011.

Expect to hear all the hits plus songs from his forth coming new album:

‘Adam Ant Is The Blueblack Hussar In Marrying The Gunner’s Daughter’.

The album is due for release in Jan/Feb 2012 and a sample track ‘Tough Men Tough Blokes’ can be heard on his web site: www.adam-ant.net and a promo video on You Tube at: http://youtu.be/1mu91mcF3kI

35 YEARS OF THE DAMNED!

This year marks the 35th anniversary of legendary UK rockers The Damned. Instrumental in kick-starting the original punk rock scene, from brash simple beginnings, The Damned have never been afraid to push themselves musically and throughout their years together have cruised through whatever areas of progressive, psychedelic, goth and pop rock that take their fancy. No one, especially the band themselves, could have predicted that a band as chaotic and explosive as The Damned could last 35 years, so to celebrate this momentous occasion, the band are touring first the USA in October, then the UK in November, playing a set that consists of two of their classic album’s being played back to back. The first part of the set will take the audience back to the sulphate and beer roaring days of The Roxy and the 100 Club as the band blaze through their high-energy 1977 debut ‘Damned, Damned, Damned’. “Damned, Damned, Damned” really captured the spirit of a time when music desperately needed a re-birth,” explains guitarist Captain Sensible. “How could we realize it would be so influential in kick-starting the punk scene? It was a rancid breath in the face of the stagnant rock gods and quite rightly heralded their demise whilst giving birth to the snottiest bastard child of rock'n'roll the world had ever seen.” The second part of the set will see the 1980 released ‘Black Album’ played in its entirety, climaxing with the glorious eighteen minute psychedelic masterpiece that is ‘Curtain Call’. ‘The Black Album’ shows the band at the peak of their powers and has long been a fan favourite. “The Black Album was ambitious beyond any of our abilities and expectations, and summed up perfectly the unpredictability of The Damned.” remembers Sensible. “Whilst everyone else stuck to the punk formula of 3 minute blasts of anger, we created an album full of dark energy and lush soundscapes. By constantly changing the rules, we had created another splinter in the flesh of the music industry and influenced a whole new and alienated generation of teenagers. It was the Dawn of Goth, only we didn't know it.” “Whole musical genres have come and gone in the time this band has been playing” continues Sensible. “We just try to make music that we enjoy, and if other people are into it, that is a bonus. We certainly never made music to follow any trends. We must be doing something right because after 35 years, we still meet fans and musicians all over the world that blame us for corrupting their youth!” Come celebrate The Damned’s 35th birthday at the following dates. November: 9th - Bristol, O2 Academy 10th - Birmingham, O2 Academy 11th - Cambridge, Corn Exchange 12th - London, Roundhouse 13th - Brighton, East Wing 14th - Norwich, UEA 15th - Nottingham, Rock City 17th - Newcastle, O2 Academy 18th - Leeds, O2 Academy 19th - Manchester, Academy 20th - Edinburgh, HMV Picture House

RUTS DC RIDE AGAIN

This news from John Robbs excellent louderthanwar.com website-the mighty Ruts DC will play again!

t’s no great surprise, and completely understandable, that Ruts DC have always been and remain overshadowed by The Ruts. DC were of course formed shortly after Ruts singer Malcolm Owen died in July 1980 leaving the other three members of the band shell shocked and unsure what to do next. Carrying on seemed to all extents and purposes the least painful option at the time but it was a decision which wasn’t easy to make.

“We wanted to carry on writing but the dynamic of the band had completed changed” explains drummer Dave Ruffy “We all shared the vocals” adds bass player Segs “but looking back the first Ruts DC album we did was grief ridden even if we weren’t aware of it at the time.”

That album, ‘Animal Now’, was released on Virgin in 1981 but failed to keep hold of much of The Ruts audience. Yet in hindsight it’s a fine record, one which included at least one song carried over from the Ruts, “Different View”, as well as their trademark reggae sound ‘Fools’ and one of the most vicious attacks on the record industry ever, and Virgin in particular, in ‘Parasites’. It also features possibly the greatest rhythm section Punk has ever seen as well as inspirational guitarist, the late Paul Fox. Thirty years later ‘Animal Now’ still, criminally, hasn’t been released on CD.

The lack of commercial success, and probably the words to ‘Parasites’, resulted in Virgin pulling the plug on them only a couple of years after they had been a regular on Top of the Pops and viewed as the band most likely to take over the Clash’s mantle. But, a year later Ruts DC released the now near legendary ‘Rhythm Collision Volume 1’ album on their own Bohemian Records label, an absolute essential dub reggae album made in collaboration with the Mad Professor which to this day is viewed as a masterpiece
“We had no money, no gigs, nowhere to rehearse” remembers Ruffy
“Foxy looked up Mad Professor and we went down to see him” continues Segs “and the studio was his house. There were two speakers with gaffer tape on them, and the studio was the bedroom of the house. We thought it was great. It was one of the most creative times I’ve ever had.”

“It was all hand built” Ruffy smiles “Mad Professor was in there performing, ust in his own world and we loved it.”

I had the privilege of seeing Ruts DC on the London date of the ‘Rhythm Collision’ tour when they played in the foyer at the Brixton Fair Deal (now the Academy) in October 1982 and it still remains in my top ten gigs of all time. They simply encapsulated everything that was great about punk and dub reggae switching from Rhythm Collision tracks like the tremendous ‘Weak Heart’ to Ruts classics such as ‘Jah War’ in front of a loyal hardcore Ruts fan base who had stuck with them through thick and thin.

Yet despite its greatness, Rhythm Collision, failed to pick up a new audience and the inevitable writing was sadly on the wall.

“People wanted to hear punk rock and we wanted to do our thing” muses Ruffy “The whole grief thing hit me and it was really sad” Segs says quietly “It was too much for me. We went to places like New York where we’d never been before and they loved us. But it should have been the Ruts playing there with Malcolm not with me singing. We did a UK tour in the van and I had these sandwiches in foil and when I’d eaten them our manager said keep the foil and we can use it tomorrow. One minute we were on Top of the Pops the next minute we were saving foil for sandwiches. It was impossible to continue.”

Ruts DC split in early 1983. Since then both Segs and Ruffy have kept busy, Segs most recently as a producer and member of Alabama 3, Ruffy as a renowned drummer with the likes of Kirsty McCall and the Waterboys and more recently with Marc Almond and Edwyn Collins.

Paul Fox passed away in 2007 which led to the legendary gig the band played three months before his death in London with Henry Rollins singing and epic as that was it looked like the last we would hear of the Ruts.
However, the fantastic news is that not only have Segs and Ruffy recorded Rhythm Collision Volume 2 with the Mad Professor but they will be going out to play live as Ruts DC in Dub supporting Alabama 3 on four dates of their imminent tour.

“It’s not a Ruts reformation,” states Segs “how could it be, but we’ve recorded the album and we’re currently finishing mixing it with Prince Fatty. We’re going to do four dates on the Alabama 3 tour and the set’s going to be a mixture of new songs, some tracks from ‘Rhythm Collision Volume 1’, maybe ‘Fools’ from ‘Animal Now’ and we might even throw in a different version of ‘Jah War’.

“It’s a bit scary playing live again with Ruts DC” remarks Ruffy “but we’ve put together a great band. The album has turned out quite political, not intentionally, but in a natural way. There was a great vibe in the studio when we recorded it and thirty years is long enough to have waited for Volume 2! I see the whole venture as a work in progress and there’s no reason, time permitting, why we can’t keep it going”

Can there be much better news to finish off 2011 than the return of Ruts DC?

Ruts DC will be supporting Alabama 3 at the following dates:

17 November Manchester Ritz
26 November Bristol Academy
1 December Bournemouth Academy
2 December London Kentish Town Forum

Rhythm Collision Volume 2 will be available to buy at the gigs with hopefully a full release following shortly afterwards.

FIELDS OF NEPHILIM NEW ALBUM

FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM sign with EMI Label Services ‘CEROMONIES’ Brand new live album / DVD for release in early 2012 Photo: Copyright by Daniela Vorndran Sold out gig at Brixton Academy on October 22nd with The Mission EMI Label Services are proud to announce a new partnership with legendary gothic icons Fields Of The Nephilim to release ‘Ceromonies’ their long-awaited live album and DVD. The Europe-wide deal marks the next chapter in the band’s evolution, and heralds a new dawn for their legions of fans around the world. Fields of the Nephilim formed in 1984 and quickly rose to prominence with singles such as ‘Power’ and ‘Preacher Man’ and their debut album ‘Dawnrazor’ which was released in 1987 on Beggars Banquet. Subsequent albums ‘The Nephilim’ and ‘Elizium’ saw the band develop their trademark sound, a huge multi-layered tapestry of dark, brooding instrumentation crowned with frontman Carl McCoy’s deep mystical incantations. Hugely influential on a whole generation of industrial, metal and gothic bands, Carl McCoy expanded their musical template with the release of the album ‘Zoon’ in 1996 under the name The Nefilim; an album which set the benchmark for the many black and death metal artists who followed in its wake. Nine years later Fields Of The Nephilim returned with the critically acclaimed album ‘Mourning Sun’, a powerful and complex work that saw them headline festivals across Europe. In 2008 they played two sold out shows at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire which were filmed and are now being released in early 2012 as ‘Ceromonies’, a double CD live album and breathtaking DVD. Fields Of The Nephilim make their long-awaited return to the British stage on October 22nd with a sold out concert at London’s Brixton Academy alongside The Mission. Further live shows will be announced for 2012 in support of ‘Ceromonies’.
