Fields of the Nephilim can confirm that they will share the stage with The Mission at London's Brixton Academy on October 22nd 2011 with support from Gene Loves Jezebel. This event represents a monumental coming together of two of the most influential bands of the dark music movement and will be a huge celebration of this powerful scene. Carl McCoy made the following comment: > > "It is well known that Fields of the Nephilim are very selective about where > and when we perform live. There is always a greater significance underlying > our shows. On this occasion we simply felt that the time had come to show > that there is unity for all those who support the scene we are involved in. > This will be a unique gathering of forces and a very memorable event. > On another level I have a personal connection with this area of London > and the venue in particular, and I look forward to returning to Brixton > Academy" Carl McCoy, creator and vocalist of Fields of the Nephilim, was influenced from a very young age by a Œdark culture¹, aiding his decision to pursue a career in art and music. He embraced the world of the occult and portrayed it through his own apocalyptic fusion of Victorian underworld meets Serge Leone Spaghetti Western. Fields of the Nephilim¹s emerging brand of aural delights were expressed in genre defining tracks such as ŒTrees Come Down¹, ŒPower¹, ŒPreacher Man¹ and ŒDawnrazor'. The band continues to affirm their cult status with regular festival headline appearances around the World and sell-out shows in many major cities. Their legacy stretches back over 25 years with the band continuing to evolve their seminal sound and never failing to entrance those that bear witness to their ritual live shows. First single taken from the Cute Lepers upcoming third album “Adventure Time”. ‘Damaging Acts” Available on a choice of white or orange vinyl. Click on the pic to purchase online. <http://damagedgoods.greedbag.com/the-cute-lepers/> This 7” & Digital release features an exclusive b-side ‘Called ‘Don’t Believe The Numbers’ The Cute Lepers…as I’m sure you know, are a six/sometimes seven-piece band from Seattle in the USA, equally influenced by first wave punk, mod-revival, power pop, with the spirit of Johnny Thunders...together with occasional hints of doo-wop, early 60's rock 'n' roll and a load of female back-up vocals. Led by chief songwriter Steve E. Nix & Kicks (yes that’s Steve E. Nix & Kicks from seminal Seattle band The Briefs!). After a couple sold out singles and lengthy tours of the United States and Europe, summer 2008 their debut album "Can't Stand Modern Music" was released on DG in Europe and Blackheart Records (yeah... the label Joan Jett started up a few decades ago!), it combined the attitude of punk rock, the style of mod, and the polished sound of pop. The album went on to win the Best Punk Album category in the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards. This was quickly followed by their second album “Smart Accessories” and another huge world tour. <http://damagedgoods.greedbag.com/the-cute-lepers/> Their third album "Adventure Time" is available on CD, download or a choice of white or blue vinyl. Click on the pic to purchase. It follows the same strict rules for classic pop-punk and Duncan Reid from legends ‘The Boys’ wrote a the track ‘77’ for the band after seeing them in Europe last year. REBELLION NEWS Hello there, we thought you were due for a Rebellion update, I'm going to try to keep it short cos I know its a pain getting loads of info through that half the time you dont have time to read...... Latest exciting additions to the bill are PENNYWISE who'll be special guests to COCKSPARRER on Saturday and bringing their own style of L.A. punk rock to the Rebellion event. These guys have been kicking up a fuss since 1988 and are a welcome addition to the line up. Breaking News (well is was a couple of weeks ago!) INFA RIOT, have reformed. The last big band from the Bushell era Oi days have got back together. They always crossed over with the Punk crowd, gigging with the likes of Exploited and the Upstarts. There's a lot of people that have waited to see them and we're excited that REBELLION is the first place you will be able to catch them live for over 25 years.... THE DEVILS BRIGADE (feat Matt Freeman) and THE OLD FIRM CASUALS (Lars Frederiksens new band)play Thursday so we'll have half of Rancid there that day!!! Jennie is really excited about having SIMON FRIEND from The Levellers play the acoustic stage on Sunday night and also PENNY RIMBAUD AND THE LAST AMENDMENT for Friday in Bizarre Bazaar. Bands are now on the website in Days and Stages so you can see who's playing where and which day. It's not an order of play though so if you see something which appears to clash on the list they might not when we do time lists. Day tickets are also available. There'll be a new A4 flyer out soon, if you go to loads of gigs and will take some or have record/clothes shops near you that'll take a few then please email us your address and whether you want a small/medium or large amount, any help is gratefully appreciated. Sorry for the dissapointment caused by Adam Ant pulling out, as we said on facebook we really did try and keep him happy but it was clear to us at the end that he had no intention of fullfilling the commitment he had made. Finally thank you to all the bands who get in touch and ask us to play. We really are full now and have a long reserve list so please dont send any more requests until next year. We do try to answer everyone personally but have been recieving up to 50 requests a day and cant always reply so apologies to anyone who has emailed and had no reply. Don't forget, April is the last month to get your tickets at a reduced price...... Well its just over a month till Amsterdam and we're looking forward to a jaunt accross the pond. We think there'll be a fair few folks there on saturday night so if you're around we'll see you for a few beers in the square. see you soon, lots of love Darren and the Rebellion crew Love n hugs Daz, Jen and team Rebellion xxxx Amsterdam in May... STEVE DIGGLE New single, ŒWorld Spinning Round¹ RELEASED VIA 3.30 RECORDS 18 MAY. And a one off gig at The 100 Club 18 May featuring Mick Talbot on keyboards. Legendary Buzzcockian tunesmith Steve Diggle is releasing a new single from his highly acclaimed new solo album, ŒAir Conditioning¹ featuring his band ŒThe Revolution Of Sound¹. Mick Talbot (Paul Weller, Style Council) will be joining Steve and the band for a one off show at The 100 Club on London¹s Oxford Street Wednesday 18 May 2011. Almost 35 years since Steve played at The 100 Club as part of the legendary punk rock festival of 1976 Steve returns to showcase new music from his brand new solo album, ŒAir Conditioning¹ released last November on Steve¹s own label, Œ3.30¹ Records. ŒWorld Spinning Round¹ is an up-to-the-minute words and moments of realisation as the world spins round, a classic riff backed by a psychomod dance groove. Released in November 2010, ŒAir Conditioning¹ was called by Classic Rock as, ³Cogent and refreshing offering a fresh blast to the system where other old punks offer stale air.....², Mojo said: ³Diggle has a rousing, distinctive way with melody.....² and Q Magazine said: ³Diggle still crafts a cracking tune underpinned by a sense of punk righteousness.....² ŒIn The Air¹ was the first single to be released from the album and came out shortly before the student protests last December. The questioning lyrical themes of the single seemed to foreshadow the protests but it¹s also a powerful reminder that so much intuitive and lyrical insight is missing from much of today¹s Œpop¹ music. As Steve says, ³Most bands these days are Blue Peter presenters with guitars. There¹s too much McDonalds and not enough heroes, myths and legends in the music business!²
Hugh Cornwell, the original vocalist and guitarist of the Stranglers, starts his UK tour on Wednesday 6th April at the Portsmouth South Parade Pier. Hugh¹s very special guests will be ³The Brothers From Brazil²; a unique drum and guitar duo from Sao Paulo, Brazil who play a new kind of bossa nova and hardcore punk rock hybrid called ³Punkanova². "One of the highlights of going to Brasil last year was being invited on to the Brothers From Brazil¹s television show to perform with them,² says Cornwell. ³They were up for doing 'Golden Brown' but I thought something more upbeat would work better, so we ran through 'Hanging Around' whilst the audience was being seated by girls on rollerblades.² Click here to watch Hugh performing ŒHanging Around¹ with the Brothers From Brazil on Brazilian TV - www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdptX4t5Cjs Cornwell, who wrote the Stranglers classics Golden Brown, No More Heroes, and Peaches, will perform Stranglers epics including The Raven, Schoolmaam and Toiler on the Sea, in addition to the entirety of his 1997 solo album ŒGuilty¹. The Boys From Brazil will perform in the middle of Cornwell¹s two sets. Cornwell¹s UK tour includes Portsmouth South Parade Pier (April 6), Gateshead Sage (April 7), Manchester Academy (April 8), Glasgow Academy (April 9), Sheffield Academy (April 10), Clitheroe The Grand (April 12), Leamington Assembly (April 13), Bath Komedia (April 14), Wolverhampton Slade Rooms (April 15), London Islington Academy (April 16), Brighton Komedia (April 17). Ticket Hotline: 0871 230 1101, www.thegigcartel.com, www.seetickets.com. Hugh will perform Fan Choice encores which can be voted for at www.hughcornwell.com. The five songs with the most votes will end the evening. 20 VIP Tickets are available for each concert that enables fans to attend Hugh¹s soundcheck, where they will also receive a limited edition album, ŒYou¹re Covered¹ (only 250 copies made).
