MICHAEL MONROE ALBUM & TOUR

MICHAEL MONROE, frontman and founding member of Finnish outfit Hanoi Rocks, has confirmed a 13-date headline UK tour for April 2011; these shows will be in support of a brand new single & studio album, Monroe’s first for the Spinefarm Records UK label.

Having recently guested with Motörhead on their 35th Anniversary UK tour, Monroe and his regular touring/recording line-up (Wildhearts mainman Ginger on guitar, ex-Hanoi member Sami Yaffa on bass, Steve Conte of New York Dolls/Company Of Wolves fame on guitar, and Karl ‘Rockfist’ Rosqvist on drums – a Swedish/Finnish drummer who has played with both Chelsea Smiles & Danzig) are now ready to take on a run of dates that will see them headlining venues from Portsmouth up to Glasgow.

The full list of shows is as follows:-

PRIOR TO the tour, Monroe will be releasing a brand new studio album; as yet untitled, the record has been produced in Los Angeles by Jack Douglas (Aerosmith, John Lennon) and features such special guests as country star Lucinda Williams and Motörhead frontman Lemmy, who duets with Monroe; during the Motörhead tour, Monroe repaid the favour by joining Lemmy & Co. onstage to help out nightly on ‘Born To Raise Hell’.

“It was one of the greatest thrills for me,” says Monroe. “What an honour and a privilege!”

The album will be available on a number of different formats, including deluxe digi-pack with bonus DVD and limited edition coloured vinyl.

The first single/video from the album has been decided, however; it’s called ‘’78’ (a homage to a year of great music and significant cultural happenings) and it will be available on February 21st 2011 on both digital download & coloured vinyl 7” complete with exclusive extra track.

THE CLASH BIOPIC

Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash are working on a new biopic about the legendary punk band. It is reported to be about the making of the seminal 1979 double album, ‘London Calling’. Jones and Simonon will be executive producers and advisers. It is being scripted by award-winning writer Jez Butterworth.
The movie will be titled ‘London Calling’ and will be made by Ruby Film and Television. Producer Alison Owen said:

"Fans of The Clash have been waiting a long time to see their extraordinary story played out properly on the big screen. We’re happy Mick and Paul have the project their blessing."

Filming will start in 2011.

KEN BOOTHE FOR LONDON SKA FEST

The first legendary Jamaican artist to be added to The London Intl Ska Festival is Ken Boothe.

Best known for his No.1 UK hit ‘Everything I Own’, Ken started his
musical career by winning a singing competition at the age of 8, in
his birthplace of Kingston, Jamaica. His debut recording came in the
ska-era when he teamed up with Winston ‘Stranger’ Cole in the duo
Stranger And Ken, releasing classic cuts including ‘World’s Fair’,
‘Hush’ and ‘Artibella’, before moving onto Clement Dodd’s Studio One
label. A series of classic cuts followed including ‘The Train Is
Coming’ (on which he was backed by Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer & BB
Seaton of The Gaylads) and ‘Moving Away’. In 1967 he toured the UK
for the first time with fellow rocksteady legend Alton Ellis. The
tour was hugely successful, with Boothe being promoted as "Mr.Rock
Steady". The title was also used for his superb debut album the
following year, which contained the unlikely but huge selling
rocksteady version of ‘Puppet On A String’.

Upon leaving Studio One he was indemand with Jamaica’s top producers:
Sonia Pottinger, Phil Pratt, Leslie Kong, Bunny Lee, B.B. Seaton,
Keith Hudson, Randy’s, Niney the Observer, releasing many island hits
including ‘Freedom Street’. In 1974 Ken Boothe teamed up with
producer Lloyd Charmers, a pairing and subsequent releases on Trojan
Records, that spawned his two biggest UK hits. The aforementioned
‘Everything I Own’ top the charts for 4 weeks and the follow-up
‘Crying Over You’ reached number 11. The pair also issued other
superb versions of ‘Who Gets Your Love’, ‘Let’s Get It On’, ‘Silver
Words’ and Ain’t No Sunshine’

To this day Ken Boothe tours all over the world and remains one of
Jamaica’s most loved vocalists with his uniquely emotive and soulful
style. In 2003 this fact was recognised by the Jamaican government
awarding him the Order Of Distinction for his contribution to
Jamaican music.
