The Alarm’s Mike Peters Joins Big Country

Music-news.com reports ’80s rock band Big Country will reform with a four-show U.K. tour in January 2011.

Best known for songs like “Fields of Fire” and “In a Big Country,” their debut album The Crossing was a multi-million selling worldwide smash.

The band were lead by Stuart Adamson who sadly committed suicide in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 2001. Mike Peters of The Alarm will take his place.

Bass player Tony Butler said: “To play again as Big Country was something that was only going to happen if we could find someone who could compliment the band and sing the songs in the way they need to be sung; with heart and soul. Mike Peters from The Alarm has stepped in to fill the premise for a few shows. It’s about time the songs got another airing, and we think Stuart would be pleased too.”

Big Country U.K. tour dates:

5 – Newcastle – O2 Academy
6 – London Islington – O2 Academy
7 – Birmingham – O2 Academy
8 – Liverpool – O2 Academy

SQUEEZE 'SPOT THE DIFFERENCE' New album Released 11th October 2010 New single 'Loving You Tonight' Released 11th October 2010 "Squeeze are pretty much one of my favourite bands of all time" - Lily Allen On October 11th, the highly-rated, quintessential London band Squeeze return with 'Spot The Difference' a collection of 14 of their best-loved hits, re-recorded by the band as faithfully to the original versions as possible (whilst challenging their fans to spot the difference!) The result is no mere set of re-masters, more an affirmation that Squeeze are the masters of accessible guitar-pop. Formed in South London in 1973, and armed with Glenn Tilbrook's winning melodies and Chris Difford's pithy lyrics, songs such as 'Cool For Cats', 'Pulling Mussels (From The Shell)' and the classic 'Up The Junction' established Squeeze as one of the UK's finest pop acts. Yet they have also been one of its greatest exports, their bittersweet tales of London life and love proving universal enough to strike a chord in the USA. It was while on tour across the pond in 2007 that 'Spot The Difference' began to take shape - the band found that learning to play together was indeed like learning to ride a bicycle and their easy chemistry led to a desire to record again. The final catalyst was retreating to their hotel room and seeing yet another of their songs used in a TV commercial without their approval or knowledge, and the band decided to take action in the form of regaining ownership of their catalogue. Back in Glenn's studio, the band - fleshed out by long-time bassist John Bentley, plus newer members Simon Hanson on drums and Stephen Large on keys - set about re-recording the songs. Being something of an equipment hoarder, Glenn found he already had a lot of the old instruments, amps and mixers that the band had used first time round and former keyboard player and vocalist Paul Carrack was able to come back to lend his unmistakeable vocals to the new version of 'Tempted'. A massive influence on the likes of Lily Allen, Mark Ronson, The Feeling, Broken Bells and Andy Burrows (Razorlight, I Am Arrows), 'Spot The Difference' only reaffirms that Squeeze are refreshed and renewed and very much a contemporary band who are constantly looking to the future - a recent US TV performance of 'Pulling Mussels (From The Shell)' on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' saw the keyboard solo played on an Apple iPad! On top of this, Glenn and Chris have put their Ivor Novello winning partnership back into gear and started writing the first new Squeeze material in over 10 years, although there is no set date to record anything just yet. In the meantime, to herald the new album Squeeze have chosen 'Loving You Tonight' as its first single. Originally sung by Carrack and never released as a single in the UK, the re-record has vocals by Glenn and is immediately recognisable as a brand new recording, yet is produced with the energy and vigour of a band in their twenties. Additionally, a 'Deluxe Edition' of the album will be made available, which comes with a live recording of the band's recent set at the illustrious Fillmore. Squeeze are all set to end a triumphant year - which has seen them undertake a 5 week sold out tour the US and have the site of their first ever gig awarded with a PRS for Music Heritage Plaque - with a 22-date tour of the UK, reuniting with another familiar face in former keyboard man Steve Nieve and finishing up with 4 dates at 3 different London venues. 'SPOT THE DIFFERENCE' TRACK LISTING 1. Another Nail In My Heart. 2. Black Coffee In Bed. 3. Cool For Cats. 4. Goodbye Girl. 5. Hourglass. 6. Is That Love. 7. Labelled With Love. 8. Steve Ignorant's Last Supper tour is just over two weeks away and more dates have been added. Read on for the background and new dates as well as a photographic challenge for all you punks out there! BACKGROUND In 2007, STEVE IGNORANT gathered some friends together and put on two shows at Shepherd¹s Bush Empire in London. Called The Feeding Of 5000, the show was a celebration of the Crass album of the same name, which was performed in its entirety. It most certainly was not a CRASS reunion, and never sought to be. The Last Supper tour will answer the calls that have come from around the globe in response to the Shepherd¹s Bush gigs. Steve will be celebrating the period of Crass¹ work with which he feels most closely aligned the period when he feels the band were at their strongest, most productive and most hopeful. Steve will be performing with a full band. as well as featuring Crass songs (plus a few other favourites) there will be some rather special visuals. The touring line up includes Gizz Butt (guitar), Bob Butler (bass), Spike T Smith (drums), Beki (vocals) and of course Steve Ignorant (vocals). Having started in London in 2007, this new expanded show will now visit other parts of the UK, Europe, Japan and the USA before a FINALE in London in 2011. At which point the door will be firmly closed. The UK leg will begin in September: 24 Sep Bristol - O2 Academy 25 Sep Birmingham - O2 Academy 01 Oct Manchester - Academy 02 Oct Edinburgh - Liquid Room The dates on the continent are as follows: 15 Oct Netherlands - Melkweg 16 Oct Cologne - Underground 17 Oct Frankfurt - Exzess 19 Oct Munich - Feierwerk 20 Oct Berlin - Festaal 21 Oct Lodz - Dekompresja 22 Oct Hamburg - Hafenklang 23 Oct Copenhagen - Loppen 24 Oct Groningen - Vera 20 Nov Finland, Tampere, Klubi *NEW DATE* 21 Nov Finland, Helsinki, Nosturi *NEW DATE* Before heading back to play Ireland: 26 Nov Dublin - Village *NEW DATE* 27 Nov Belfast - Empire *NEW DATE* Please help us to spread the word and if you would like to go along to see one of the shows do not hesitate to get in touch. NOW, CALLING ALL PUNKS... AND FINALLY... JUST A REMINDER ABOUT 'THE REST IS PROPAGANDA' STEVE'S BOOK RELEASE AVAILABLE ON TOUR SOUTHERN RECORDS <http://t.ymlp15.com/mwacambsafawemmadahhu/click.php> are proud to present the timely release of Steve Ignorant's book The Rest Is Propagnda which will be available to buy throughout his tour and soon available through the Southern webshop. <http://t.ymlp15.com/mqagambsanawemmadahhu/click.php> Being one of the founding members of Crass, it seems long overdue but we are so glad that we now have the chance to read Steve's story, in full. And after making a start on the book myself I can say that he is quite the storyteller. Steve will be doing all that he can to promote the book so do get in touch with me if you are interested in finding out more. Phone and face to face interviews can be arranged before the tour (and during if you are fortunate to be based in one of the cities that he is visiting) Ill leave you with a snapshot of the artwork for now...but stay tuned for more information very soon. <http://t.ymlp15.com/mwacambsafawemmadahhu/click.php>

Spiky haircuts and leather jackets are The Limit on The Moor The queue of spiky haircuts and leather jackets that became a familiar sight on Sheffield's West Street for 13 years has brought them back to life in jaw-dropping style by local artist Paul Staveley. He teamed up with management on The Moor to recreate the scene outside one of Sheffield's most iconic venues, The Limit. Interest in the venue that celebrates 20 years since its closure next year is at an all time high thanks to Neil Anderson's best selling 'Take It To The Limit' book that chronicles the life of the club and a series of reunion club nights that have been complete sell outs and attracted punters from as far away as Spain. Everyone from U2 to Human League played the venue that ran from 1978 until 1991. The art installation sits at 54, The Moor, in the former Mark One clothing shop. Paul Staveley said: "The Limit holds a special place in the minds of so many people and the publication of Neil Anderson's 'Take It To The Limit' book last year brought interest to a head like never before. "I'm hoping my art installation on The Moor will bring memories flooding back." A Limit reunion is set to be as close as you'll get to the real thing and takes place at Wellington Street's Casbah on Saturday, September 18. Paul Staveley will also be exhibiting two limited edition prints of the venue on the night and legendary Limit DJ Paul Unwin will be providing the music. Two previous reunions have been complete sell-outs. Sandra Barley, The Moor's centre liaison manager, said: "Paul's Limit installation is one of the best pieces of art we've ever had on The Moor. It captures the club in its eighties heyday and it is already creating quite a stir." Put together in studio down-time and ably backed by Toe Rag’s stable of musicians,“On My Mind” features Fabienne’s customary  mixture of both English and French lyrics sung with plenty of coquettish charm.  With songs and production so authentically 60’s they could have been taken from tapes gathering dust in Serge Gainsbourg’s garage for the last 40 years.

The album marks something of a departure from the jaunty beat-pop and ye-ye of her previous albums however, there’s a definite autumnal feel to several of the tracks, putting you in mind of what the much mooted Francoise Hardy/Nick Drake collaboration might have yielded.

Lyrically the bulk of the album deals with the melancholic side of love and has a slightly trippy and introspective edge. Most notably on “Strange Shadows” and the title track “On my Mind” with its phased drums and “Strawberry Fields” style moog motifs. You’re unlikely to hear a better record this autumn!

Here what the press have said about her previous albums:-   “An absolute gem” 4/5 – STOOL PIGEON “Timeless and endlessly entertaining” – UNCUT
